Anyone?
Not too worried about overclocking as long as its still a pretty good board, that'll do for me.
the question is do you ever really expect to run SLI?
If you don't get a P35 based mobo (IP35-E etc.).
Not really, TBH.
so whats the difference between the different IP35 mobos? was thinking about the pro but not sure what the difference is?
level of features:
IP35-E - basic mobo. 4 SATA, no RAID
IP35 - 6 SATA ( RAID), firewire, solid caps around CPU
IP35 Pro - 6 SATA (RAID), 2 eSATA, firewire, 2nd physical x16 slot (x4 electrical), 2 gigabit Nics, uGuru, external clear CMOS, on board power & reset switches, 100% solid caps
Excelent, thanks. Might as well go ahead and get the pro lol.
Seems im now just looking for the hottest MoBo out there for gaming, any suggestions?
Just to run stock or overclocked?
The IP35 series is still a good choice.
my mate just bought an abit ip35 pro and an msi ip35 board also for 2 different builds and my mate is a highly skilled technician and has worked with computers for over 20 years and he had huge problems with both boards, neither would recognise a sata dvd drive to install windows from neither came with raid drivers for windows xp and he spent ages trying to get the ones from the cd onto a floppy and then actually working
and then his msi board autoupdated the bios in the middle of the night (he left it on to download steam games) and downloaded a corrupt bios that msi had not got round to removing from their site
overall not very user friendly to get started with
can't speak for the MSI but the abit should be just plug in for a SATA ODD, he probably didn't scroll far enough down the boot menu to select the device (it'll be listed by actual model no. rather than saying SATA DVD).
mmm, you do realise that you've said that it came without drivers & then said he had problems getting the supplied ones to work ...neither came with raid drivers for windows xp and he spent ages trying to get the ones from the cd onto a floppy and then actually working
Again can't speak for the MSI but the abit has them on CD with an utility to make a floppy.
i'm sorry maybe i grew up in age with computers when companies were kind enough to supply you a floppy disk with drivers on, as you have just pointed out the cd comes with a utility to make a raid floppy which would have been handy if he could get the sata dvd drive to work. but sadly he did scroll all the way down the list and it wasnt on there he had to get an ide cd drive to do it and then after windows was installed he could get it to work
and anyway buff i am simply pointing out to him that it can be a troublesome board at times i personally feel the p35 is a better chipset than the 650i but the 650i had very few setup problems which is a plus point IMO!!!
afaik Asus started doing away with them a few years ago & other companies have gradually followed with abit doing so only in the last year iirc.
It's becoming moot anyway as Vista doesn't need a floppy for them.
are you absolutely sure?which would have been handy if he could get the sata dvd drive to work. but sadly he did scroll all the way down the list and it wasnt on there he had to get an ide cd drive to do it and then after windows was installed he could get it to work
it's not an uncommon mistake for people to make.
