Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now
It worked great yesterday and overnight, I installed XP, foobar, and your usual array of programs for a new install. While this was all going on last night, I shut it down more than once (I added some of our older harddrives, IDE, in order to get access to the data on them). I had no problems booting it back up.
This morning my wife shut it down to leave for a few hours and now it won't start. It turns on, the fans start up, the light by the power switch shows red the whole time, but the green one goes out then it turns itself off and tries again. The POST Code LED shows the following: 83, 90, 98, 99 then it reboots.
I already tried unplugging the IDE HDs in case they were the problem, but the same thing happens.
I'm having trouble finding a clear indication as to what this means. I'm currently at work trying to figure out if this is something I can troubleshoot from here, at home or if something is toast.... which really wouldn't make sense seeing as how it worked without a hitch before.
Hardware:
Abit IP35 Pro
C2D E6750
2GB A-Data DDR2-800
XFX 8800GTS 320MB
Corsair HX620W
1 160GB Seagate SATA HD
Samsung SATA DVD Drive
I haven't overclocked or adjusted anything in the BIOS yet. It doesn't stay on long enough to get in.
What would be your reccomended steps to get this working?
Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now
You are the fourth person in two weeks to have this problem. The only thing they all have in common in the corsair HX series PSU. It maybe worth trying another PSU.
Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now
thats slightly worrying for me.
was about to buy an IP35 (non pro) to go with my hx620
can you confirm is the other 4 are just IP35 pro users or is it affecting all IP35 models?
Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now
The problem has been seen on all the IP35 series. The problem has also been documented on antech & seasonic PSU as they are all made by the same company.

I have the corsair HX620 PSU and I havent had that problem, HOWEVER I did have a problem where the board would start to POST, almost got to the part where it counts the memory, then the board jsut resets itsself into a loop. I have found that clearing CMOS, leaving it off for 15 mins, then resetting the cmos switch worked. I then reset the BIOS settings to whatthey were before the incident. This happened to me last week. Since then I have had no problems.

Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now
any clues as to why this is happening with these paticular PSU's?

Sounds very similar to what my wife described over the phone. Possible the problem. I'll try that now... if not, again when I get home.

The engineers at abit HQ are currently looking into it. From what I have been told its a PSU issue rather than a motherboard problem. Something to do with the 12v supply that only effects the P35 chipset.
Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now
Are there any known workarounds or is it simply a case of needing to try a new PSU? I really don't want to have to drop another €120 Euros and rewire my entire case because of something wierd.

As I mentioned before the problem is still being investigated and so far there is no workaround for the problem.

Yeah, you gotta wait 4 hours till I get home... I still think its wierd that such a problem happens, but it worked fine for about 10 hours, including 3 or 4 complete shutdowns and being turned back on...

I can also confirm that the problem is NOT restrcited to those PSU's the problem is also onthe ENERMAX powersupplies.

" have a strange problem that seems to be linked to my Enermax Infiniti 650W PSU
I have recently purchased the following parts
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.33GHz (1333FSB) – Retail
Geil 1GB (2x512MB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX21GB6400UDC)
Abit IP35-E (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Sapphire Radeon X1950Pro 256 DDR3 PCI-Express
When connected to my Infiniti PSU the motherboard won’t post, it keeps rebooting continually. I have tried another PSU and I can post the motherboard no problems so I know the board, memory & CPU are fine.
The Abit IP35-E does have a “Double Boot” issue, where it will start up then power down after 5 seconds then re-start. This issue is being sorted by Abit.
If anybody could help me solve this problem I would be very grateful as my Infinity is not very old and works fine in another setup which is P4 Prescott based.

Sorry to be so anticlimactic. But somehow, it was a short. I took it out, set it up on the mobo box and it worked. Put it all back together and it works now too.
Thanks for all your help anyway! It is appreciated. :) Gilgamesh, you're a good man for all the helping out you do all over the place. I Tip my hat to you sir!

Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now
I guess I would be the 5th person having this problem now. Got myself a whole new computer consisting of;
Abit IP35 Pro
Intel Q6600
Corsair Dominator PC8500
Corsair HX650W
Powercolor 2900Pro
Put it together, installed Win + all drivers. Went on to some programs and games and did some benchmarking. Computer ran full evening with not a single error. Shut down for the night and the next morning it won't boot at all. LED shows '87' and I cant get any further. Tried clear CMOS by all possibilities(pin, switch at the back, battery out, for 15-30 mins every time). Removed memory, re-attached all cables. Took out everything, incl motherboard.
Rebuilt again from scratch and tried with one mem, gfx-card in slot(no cables attached) just to see if I could get into bios, but no change.
I've now RMA'd both psu and mobo in the hope that they will test it/get the same problem and have an answer to what I should do. Bad mo-bo, bad psu, nothing is broken but those 2 won't work together(with that exact revision or whatever) :(
