Intel 2180 - Abit P35 problem
well, something seems to be going wrong. The processor (edit: intel 2180, 2ghz, 800fsb, dual core) is not officially supported (not on the CPU support list). Guess what, it doesn't work, too. Very often the MB reports it wrong, as a single core cpu, and sometimes it starts up with wrong (lower) frequensy settings. Almost always freezes during POST. MB leds seem ok (1 red, 1 green). It's almost impossible to boot so I can update bios.
Any thoughts please!?

Re: Intel 6280 - Abit P35 problem
are you sure that you have that CPU model no. right?
A full list of sytem hardware is always useful.
Re: Intel 6280 - Abit P35 problem
Are you sure you don't have an e2180 cpu?
And as far as the 2180 and the ip35 goes, they work (well, the one i built did...) Although i did update the bios before putting the cpu in, may want to try that... (if you haven't already)
Re: Intel 6280 - Abit P35 problem
I had the cpu model wrong, it's a e2180 after all. sorry about that
however, the problems persist. I did manage to update to the latest bios, but during POST the cpu is still recognised as single core, and then the system freezes. Sometimes I can bypass this problem by setting the (same) frequency manually (if I manage to get into bios). Then, the cpu is recognised as dual core and the system loads windows vista normally. However, running the vista experience wizard definitely leads to a reboot. Same thing as running Sisoft Sandra cache benchmark. No problem with all the other benchmarks. I have updated to latest bios
system: Intel 2180, abit p35, Geil black dragon 2*1GB ddr2 800mhz, sapphire (ati) 2900 pro, thermaltake purepower 460W
Re: Intel 6280 - Abit P35 problem
ok, sorted things out.
The cpu just had to have its frequency set manually. Ever since it works fine, as a dual core.
The rest of the stability issues were due to the RAM. It just needed a little more voltage. The stickers on the chips said 2,0V but on automatic settings, the MB gave only 1,77V. Fixed that, and I'm fine now.
