When I shut down my PC, the red light on my Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse remains lit. The mouse is connected via the PS/2 port on the motherboard (not USB). What could be causing this as it appears that the system isn't completely powered off?
PS/2 ports also has stanby power the same as USB.
How do I turn the power off completely? Is it a BIOS setting? I'm just concerned that when I power down the system, it is not powered down completely.
It's a bit disconcerting to have the red light on the mouse lit up after a shutdown!
NO ATX based system is completely shut down. If you want that, you will have to go back at the AT days, where it physically had a switch on the power button to cut the powerOriginally Posted by Taz
The motherboard always has power in todays systems, along with many peripherals (like mouse, keyboard, network card ect..) that can bring it out of standby.
The only true way is to switch it off at the plug.
There is also often a jumper by the PS2 ports that allow you to turn the power / light off to the mouse / keyboard. Not all have this though.
