    IP35 pro memory issues

4 * 1gb giel ultra , changed it to 2.1 volts, but it still sees 3GB of ram. tried the final bios, and bios 11 still have this issue kinda annoying.

No os even on the machine yet this is at the bios level, mem test runs fine.
How can there be a final bios if it doest support over 3gb of ram ?

    Re: IP35 pro memory issues

abit support told me it was because of IBM PC architecture, thats why it sees 3GB , aka my vid card is taking up the address space.

Though it totally seems to disable memory slot 3 for some reason, but still says im running in dual channel mode when i boot up. Is this just a bios issuse, as the board is rated for 8gb max , it would be nice to see all of my 4gb

aka only 3 dimms seen in memtest as well

beta bios/bios 11/14 the same, using 14 now.

This is not a bios issue. Its a limitation of all motherboard regardless of make or chipset.

    Re: IP35 pro memory issues

so noone with a decent graphics card can address all 4 dimm slots ?

its just confusing really, as it doesnt detect a bit less memory it detected nothing at all in dimm slot 3m but runs in dual channel mode.

So basically the only way to get 4GB of ram on this board with a hi end graphics card is 2*2gb and 2*1gb ??

Someone mentioned if you use the memory remap option in the bios it resolves this, but i cant seem to see the option ?

    No im afriad you misunderstand.

As Sean has mentioend not MATER WHAT graphics card you put inthe system , it will STILL only address just over 3 gigs. This happens no matter what memory or motherboard you use. The reason for this is the limitations of ANY OPerating system with 32BIT addressing!

As Sean rightly put out, everyboard suffers from this. THe ONLY way to get around it is to use a
    64bit OS. I.E XP 64 or Vista 64

With 64bit vista however you need to install the OS with only 2 gigs installed, then Install ALL the updates, and then and only then slot in the remainder of your RAM (4 GIG)

So to you it would APPEAR that no ram is being detected in slot 4 even when there actually IS.

the POST will detect 4 gigs but not the OS

The Ip 35 pro is a great board mate, please be patient!

    Re: IP35 pro memory issues

I apologise, perhaps you misunderstood me.
    Im running vista 64bit OS,
On post the bios detects 3GB of ram but says its running in dual channel mode, booting from a memtest CD shows 3GB and only 3 dimm slots
Running cpuz in windows shows only 3 dimm slots working.

Im sorry if perhaps i confused you and didnt give enough info, i really should knows as i do this for a living, but work on IBM X86 servers/blades.

Im going to try changing the dimm slots to see if i need to RMA some ram, just as i saw a post on the abit techy forums that said since bios rev 11 there has been this 3GB limit and it causes by no memory mapping enabled in the bios ?
Btw the /PAE switch on 32bit os's will allow windows to see all your memory, it will not use it but will make the user feel better, only app's coded using the specific API can address more memory using this function, SQL etc though i think some games are perhaps enabling this support i read some where.

well. mine is better in f-i90hd.. XD
for 4gb. 256MB is taken by motherboard if i use pci-e slot in 64bit.
