In9 32x-Max / QX9650
HI,
I have an In9 32x-Max which i have used with an E6700 for a while. I decided to upgrade to a QX9650 and whilst i decided what board to buy for it I tried to use the CPU on the existing IN9.
The board/bios (1.3) recognise the CPU and the system runs but the FSB/multiplier is ignoring the settings. Regardless of whether i select 3000(1333) or manual 333mhz configuration the board decides to boot at 498Mhz fsb with a 6x multi. If I configure the bios to use a lower fsb, e.g. 1066 the system posts at 400Mhz (ish) with a random multiplier again.
Anyone at abit support have a beta bios which supports the 9650 properly? (Surely there must be one somewhere... the last official was August)
EDIT: Also, the system is 100% stable at my settings, its just annoying that i cant use the correct ones.

Re: In9 32x-Max / QX9650
I may be wrong but I think that you are going to find that Yorkfield is unsupported.
That certainly seems to be the way with the nVidia reference 680is where Wolfdales apparently work but Yorkfields don't.

Re: In9 32x-Max / QX9650
I see, quite interesting to see that the chip works perfectly apart from the fsb/multi being weird...shall be good to hear what abit say about it.

Did you checked it with CPU-Z?

Re: In9 32x-Max / QX9650
Yeah, the fsb, multiplier and voltage in CPUz all match the values in the bios....

Hi Choc, did you ever try the 1.4 beta bios with that chip? I want to buy a qx9650 to run in my IN9 680i but don't know if it will work with some higher multis.

HI, i havent tried that yet but i do have the board still so will give it a go this evening to see what happens. (looking for the bios link now)

Re: In9 32x-Max / QX9650
ok, update 1... bios flashed and QX9650 seems to be recognised fine. FSB and multiplier are correct when left on auto, as is CPU voltage (1.1x volts).
Have tried setting the memory and CPU manually and again no initial problems. Just about to back up my PC and then will resinstall the board in my main system. Provided things go well in a few hours i'll report back again whilst battling with the Nvidia SATA drivers...

Re: In9 32x-Max / QX9650
ok, i've installed Vista Ultimate + SP1 and the few driver updates that were left. All seems well with the 9650 and Bios 1.4 :)

Re: In9 32x-Max / QX9650
Thanks Choc, I just talked myself into buying an E8500 later this month to avoid all of the hassles of quad core and the IN9 x32. But maybe now I will order the qx9650!! What FSB can you get and what multi's can you select?
I'm looking for 333x14 but if I can get 400x11 I would be very happy :) I have a chilly1 head single stage phase system cpu cooler tuned for 280w so only the mobo will be holding me back (which does worry me alot! given the hassle I've had so far)
thanks for the effort mate!

Re: In9 32x-Max / QX9650
Hi, i dont have any fancy cooling to try but what i can tell you is that when i go into the bios it allows me to enter any multiplier between 6 and 60 with any FSB between 400 and 3000. CPU voltage is available up to 1.9v. (memory set to unlinked - 1000mhz when i checked the above options)
I can also see from running CPUz that the multiplier is switching between 6 and 9 depending on load, as expected.
