Abit IP35 pro Bios 14, board version v1.1. with 4gb (4x1) Crucial DDR2 8500 memory. Corsair HX 620 psu. MSI passive GT8600---- All SATA (no floppy or Ide)
Right where to Start. Put PC together and it worked, though the bios ran memory at 816 mhz by default and putting it to 2.2v does not change the memory settings after clearing Cmos.
CPUz also reports that I have DDR2 6400 rather than the Crucial DDR2 8500 though it does give EPP settings for 533 which are as crucial describe. Is this normal ? It says it's Crucial Ballistix DDR2 8500 on the memory box and label.
So eventually having run it as DDr2 6400 4-4-4-12, no problems noticed, I set it at 1080mhz with the processor at default. Passed Memtest/Passed P95 though PWM temp high 60's, Undaunted I slowly started overclocking the processor, unfortunately I did not run Memtest again until today as 1080 mhz was the highest I took the memory.
Got to 3.2Ghz (356x9) memory at 1068 mhz and failed P95 (test with lots of ram) Memory at default 5-5-5-15. Temps CPU 58 , System 33, PWM 81 --which seems to high.
Increased processor voltage to 3.125. Tried Max heat test just to see how hot it would get and processor reached 62 system 33 PWM 91 ---- take the case side off droped to 80 (thought this would be OK for testing) left test running for 8 hours and it passed !
Got up today and thought I need more air flow (side off till then) and reduce memory voltage to try and reduce heat.
Ran Memtest, at 1.9 upto 2.2 v (default) and with all 4 dimms and it failed, raised it to 2.3 still fails. So reset Bios to default (processor 2.4 GHz and memory at 816 Mhz) and Ran them in pairs in both sets of slots and they passed, but put all four back in and they still fail. Same place every time. Test 6 in Memtest 1.7+ Same address every time. Even if you swop Dimms around (Keeping in original pairs).
I use a Thermalright SI-128 + Noctua 1200 at full, when fan EQ was on, as temp went up fans slowed down, so turned that off. Exhaust Noctua 1200, Intake Alaska 92 at 1380 rpm for cooling.
It will be a Music PC if I can get it running properly
Do I definately have a memory problem --- it came from Oberblockers have an RMA number for one pair but cant tell which pair has the problem.
The memory gets hot, the furthest Dimm from Processor particularly, even with the side off it is very hot with all four dimms in place whatever order, if I put a pair in the black sockets the end one seems half as hot, you can touch it without going ouch ! a little Subjective I know but seems strange to me. Two dimms =Warm, but 4 get %&*&$ Hot.
Could it be a motherboard problem ?
Any help would really ease my rather frazzled tired brain ---- Happy Seasons Greetings
