Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board?
i just purchased a ip35 and 4x1 gb ddr2 ocz rev.2 for a nice price and i am about to get a e8400 as soon it arrives to my local store.
i will be reusing some components from my actual system: enermax liberty 500, 6800gt and 2x80gb hitachi sata hd
from what i have read in this and other abit forums...the ip35 has issues witht the enermax, the ip35 has issues with the ocz´s and the ip35 has issues with the e8400......plus the ip`35 has some issues by itself (reboot loop, not posting after power off, memory slots failing overtime....)
Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board? ...this will be my first abit build, and i really want to keep it (nice features and price) but i don’t want to spend time fighting with a motherboard....and i am still on time to cancel the build and return the components
i really hope the problems reported here a due to the incompetence of the builders and not the compatibily of the board ... :) ...any opinions from people with the components/issues i listed?
Re: Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board?
No, you have to consider the sheer volume in which these things are sold & that the reported problems are a tiny, tiny % against those.
As for your specific complaints e.g. speak to Clunk about Enermax (I believe that the Galaxy has had 5 revisions in a year, apparently they themselves admit that the Liberty isn't really that great), the issue with the OCZ Gold is OCZ's problem (SPD table) not abit's, the double boot is a chipset characteristic & the memory slots failing over time is a new 1 on me.
You won't find a flawless mobo, you'll find as many problems reported with e.g. Asus & Gigabyte P35s but again they are a very, very small % of product sold.
Re: Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board?
Just like to say I've got an IP35 pro, and using it has been an absolutely flawless experience for me. Great board.
Re: Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board?
I've got the IP35-E best decision I've made in years
Re: Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board?
IP35-Pro here, although only 5 weeks old or so, solid board so far and very feature rich.
Re: Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board?
You may need to reflash the BIOS to get the 8x00 series CPU working. I had to, but once it was up, everything went smoothly....
Re: Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board?
Well I used to run a mile if somebody wanted a build with an Abit board. However since the 965 chipset I have ONLY built systems with Abit mobo's. So far 20 systems in the past 9 months for friends etc and not one has failed in use or when building one.
You will always get a rouge board no matter which manufacturer you choose.
I would also consider the support you get either directly or indirectly from the AbitUSA forum and here or directly with Abit UK.
Guys like Buff, Gilgamesh, Nelly et al have considerable knowledge and provide us with help in thier own time.
Given a choice I wouldnt consider another manufacturer atm.

The Liberty is a fantastic PSU and has very few complaints.
The Galaxy, although a beast, does have some compatibility issues with some boards.

I'm sure that I read a review/interview where Enermax admitted that it wasn't 1 of their best.

No the IP35 pro IS brilliant board mate, (see reviews) I have both revisions the 1.0 and the 1.10 both are excellent systems. At this moment I am using Crucial Ballasitx DDR 2 8500 RAM works perfectly.
As speaking as someone whom beta tests for OCZ, Yes the problem was WITH OCZ and the golds SPD table NOT THE ip35 pro! I believe the SPD table on this ram can be re programmed (will speak to ocz about this).
Only real issue with this board has been a slight thermal design layout issue, firewire performance and the promise ide controller. I have heard that there are some wilfdale issues at the moment, and there is a 1.5 bios floating around? Will spoeak to TW about this when they are back from ce-bit.
ALl in all the ip35 pro is an excellent board and is a much better product than the ix38 quad gt in my opinion.

Re: Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board?
I helped a friend through his first build on an ABit IP35 dark raider and I'd say it had 1 odd quirk but no problems since.
I posted about it in another thread and a couple of others have said the same thing, namely haveing to reset the CMOS 5-6 times before it posts, once you get it posting no problems since.
I do wonder if this oddity is the route of some of the complaints.

I had a Liberty and I was not enamoured of it.
Re: Should the ip35 be considered a problematic board?
hey...thank you all for the help, just wanted to post a quick update..
i have the system up and running, i only had the double post "issue" but i already upgraded the bios to 15 and it seems to be gone..
i ended up buying temporary cpu (celeron e1200) until the new 45mn quads are cheap and available, i overclocked the humble celeron rigt away to 400x8@1.32v, with 4gb of ocz...so far i can game (on my new hd3780) and pass occt and memecheck+...so all i can say is that ABIT IP35 is A VERY NICE BOARD :-)
*still working on my temps 35c/60c i will try to lower vols and see how it goes
