Re: Slow boot with 2 drives
That could be one of the most confusing posts I've seen in a while.....
First you say you used Vista, then you say your slow booting to XP???
Re: Slow boot with 2 drives
OK XP is primary drive.
Thought I'd try out Vista, so installed it on a seperate drive, as was unsure of vista boot loader and its effects.
Installed Vista on say drive D on port 4 using AHCI.
I tried reinstalling XP using AHCI on the primary drive, as the disc had some errors on it, so wiped and reinstalled.
I couldn't get XP to install using the F6 method with the AHCI driver. It would install using the RAID.
So obviously I have to change drive controller mode, when I choose to boot into either, which is a PITA.
Now....... with me! :)
Vista boots quick, but the drive is reading away for ages. Reminds me of my 486 with 50MB HD and 8 MB RAM! from years ago.
Booting into XP now takes nearly a minute with the Vista drive attatched.
Last night after the post, I used some tools to get the boot files defragged and that seems to have worked.
Re: Slow boot with 2 drives
so what you are saying is that you actually have 1 hard drive (the 500Gb in sig) with 2 partitions?
are you using the JMIcron at all 9e.g. optical drive is IDE)?
