Talking Abit IP35 Pro XE with both SATA and IDE HDDs

    Hi Folks,
This is my first post, your forum has been a great help to me so far so here's one for you all...

    I have the following setup:

    Abit IP35 Pro XE
    Intel Q6600
    OCZ 8500C 1066Mhz memory
    2 x Seagate Barracuda SATA 7200rpm 32MB HDDs
2 x Seagate IDE HDDs (older but used for backups)
Pioneer DVD working fine over SATA
    M$ XP Pro SP3

Since the IP35s have 6 SATA and an additional IDE channel I sort of thought I could use my SATAs for the main brunt of the day to day work and have the two IDEs to backup stuff to.

The problem: I've found that I cannot get both IDEs to be recognised. I get one working fine, but when I add the second both are not recognised.

I have... checked the drives are set to master and slave, and tried both at cable select, no luck. Switched them over and experimented, no luck, I have got the JMicron drivers installed which I believe enable the board to use the IDE drives, and as I say one of the two drives can work on its own but not 2 together.

Does anyone know how to make two IDE HDDs work with this board? Or any concerns about this type of config?

The two SATA's work perfectly fine all the way through this. The OS boots from the first SATA as expected.

    Cheers,

    Albert

Try the HDD at the end of the cable as master & the middle as cable select. Working that way on my -E for a year now. If nothing; try a different cable just to rule that out.

Spot on with the CS for the slave drive. Working fine now with the Master pins as master and the Slave as cable select.

    Thanks
