    IX38 wont post

    Specs:

    ABIT IX38 Quad GT
    Intel Core 2 duo E8400
    Stock Intel Cooler
    OCZ Reaper DDR2 1066 PC8500 4Gb (2x2GB)
    EVGA Nvidia 8800GS,
2x Western Digital 640 GB/500 GB HDD, FDD,
    2 X IDE DVD/DVD RW
    PSU Corsair TX-750W 750watt.
    ATi pci TV Wonder
    Adaptec 160 Scsi card
    Windows XP Pro SP3

have my PC running fine and on a UPS. We had some power spikes or something and the PC turned off. When I went to power it on, nothing. I disconnected everything, opened the case and went to boot. When power is connected, the MB lights up. When I try to boot I get the following sequence (really fast)

    82
    83
    99

Then it shutsdown and loops. Almost like its not getting enough gas If you know what I mean. PSU?

Im not sure what to think. Went through troubleshooting the PSU. You can jump it by connecting 2 wires on the molex. The PSU then runs when not connected to the board.

Took out the CPU per tech supports request (the one time they actually answered the phone today) With a PSU, VGA and no cpu (CPU power and fan are plugged in) I sometimes get the 8.7. error or it just hangs on 8.2.

Maybe it is a PSU issue or the short is under the CPU?

I have not reset the bios yet, any ideas at all?

8.2>8.3>9.9. would normally indicate a PSU problem.

Always worth trying a CMOS clear but I would also advise trying a more stripped down config. (e.g. 1 DIMM, perhaps take out your PCi cards etc.).

Damn, replaced both the CPU and PSU and same thing, this board is toast and the abit tech support number is coming up as disconnected.

    RMA,

they finally shipped me a board back although I have not received it. They got it on the 3rd. If you RMA make sure you send it to the right address, the just moved after shutting down the US operation.

    Re: IX38 wont post

i have found the source of my problem

there was a problem with the psu, the PWR_OK pin of the ATX2.2 gave me a low voltage of 0.10v instead of 5.0v. now with the new psu everything is working as expected.
