    abit av8 socket 933

Hello all new to the site but having some problems reinstalling my computer.

Hard disk 200gb failed so installed new hard disk 250 gb sata disk but when i plug it in in bios it says No attached disk press tab then I get up Raid drivers. Tried also a 500 gb hard disk but that did not work either. What can i do?

Same problem if i load up original cds for xp i get problem saying there are no disks.

    Thanks

Your board is a socket 939, not 933. Once you install a SATA HDD it will not show in BIOS like a normal IDE drive does. Your hard drive is now on the Via Sata Controller. You will need to boot from your windows CD and hit F6 at the very beginning (Look at the bottom of the screen) A couple minutes later windows will prompt you for the drivers, that's when you feed it the floppy that came with your board and load the drivers. Windows setup will then see the new drive.

The hard disk should show up when i press TAB to get into Raid controler it does for the 250 and old 200 but not for the 500. I have original disk for xp install and abit board but install also shows no hard disk for the 500gb.

    Thanks

Thats because the new drive is probably a SATAII 3.0gb drive yes?? Your board only support SATA 150 drives. There should be a way to jumper your new HDD to force SATA 150 operation..... check the documentation.
