    Abit AWD9MAX Quad Core Problem

    Hi All,

I hope someone can help me, I was having problems with my PC, I was constantly getting a post code of 9.0, I removed the cpu, memory, psu and all components and reseeted them. I have now got my PC back online, however the CPU is reported as an Intel Quad CPU (2 Processors) and only 2 processsors are listed in Windows, where before the failure there was 4. Is this normal behaviour? The strange thing als is that during the POST stage, the bios reports the processeor being a Quad Core CPU, yet says there are only 2 processors.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi M8
Can you post your system specs memory type and speed. Bios version.
I presume you have been using the Quad for a while then got error code 9.0 and its been playing up since?

Did you clear the CMOS before reinstalling the components? As error code 9.0 indicates a borked bios. Might be worth reflashing the bios

9.0. Complete µGuru initial processAWARD BIOS take over booting job 1. Power on -> Stop at 9.0.2. 0.0.-> 8.3. -> 9.0.

Award BIOS initial stop processing 1. OC too high 2.BIOS dead

    1. Clear CMOS 2.Restore default setting for BIOS 3. Replace BIOS chip 4. Send to RMA at last

Refer to this thread as well

    Hi,

I did follow the procedure you mentioned, and have updated my bios to 680i-MCp55pxe-6a61ai1ac-15. This version info was obtained from Abit Flash Menu, I am using 4gb Corsair CM2X2048-6400C4DHX and 2 X Geforce 8800GTX OC, although I have removed one at the moment. The PC seems to be runnning fine now, apart from the fact that only 2 cores seem to be availble

Re: Abit AWD9MAX Quad Core Problem

whe you say you updated your bios do you mean you "flashed it" or you replaced the chip? that BOIS looks like a IN9 bios.
"680i" is a nvidia chipset(NB), the AW9D MAX latest bios is 17 not 15 as the last number in that string would indicate
if you think it safe to flash, flash from DOS with a floppy or try a full cmos clear:
    1. power suppy (or wall socket) off
    2. remove battery
    3. clear CMOS (make sure jumper is put back in correct position)

when done remember to put your ram voltages back to what they need to be (2.1 volts?)
