Question IX48 GT3 Incorrect Temperature Reading

Hey, Ive installed all the components on my Abit IX48 GT3 and when I boot up the internal speaker goes crazy, I figured it was because the uguru utility thinks that my processor (Intel Core 2 Duo E7400) is 103 Degrees Celsius. Now I thought this might be correct so I took off the CPU heat sink and touched the CPU, it was not even warm. So I tried playing Oblivion and well I turned all the things that would normally lag CPU right down and it lagged, which is odd for a Dual core processor. This is the same performance that I got from my old Celeron D which has lead me to believe that my motherboard is down clocking my CPU so it can "cool" it down, when its already cool.

Even when I am playing Oblivion the back plate isn't hot so do say it is getting to 103 Degrees.

Anyway I'm wondering what I have to do to fix this problem, I heard somewhere that you have to update the BIOS, BUT I don't know how.

    Any help is really appreciated.

(Oh and I have a 8600 GT which should run Oblivion just fine)

    Thanks in Advance!

    try updating BIOS to http://www.abitshop.eu/bios/m703d.bin
    as to how see http://www.theraptorpit.com/forum/in...showtopic=2628

is it possible that the 8600GT is the limiting factor for your system whilst playing Oblivion?

Re: IX48 GT3 Incorrect Temperature Reading

Yeah I updated my BIOS with the FlashMenu Utility and it said in the temperature colunm of uguru that is was disabled???

So when I installed some Nvidia drivers and switched it off and on again I got the C5 error and when I switched it off and on again it gave me the C1 error, which I can only clear the CMOS to fix and then it tells me the temperature is 103 Degrees again.

It is getting rather frustrating but thanks for the help, I'll try flashing the BIOS through a CD or Floppy next time.

if you are confident that it's a false reading just disable the CPU temp. reading/warning/shutdown in the BIOS & use another utility like coretemp.

I'll second that fix - same thing was happening when I installed my IX48 GT3 with a Core 2 Quad Q9650 cpu in a new case. Sound blasted out when system turned on and after a bit of checking I determined the BIOS and/or the reading were in error. System been running fine for months.

Hey I got Coretemp and it proved my theory... my abit motherbord has been smoking too much weed, Coretemp says its running at 33 Degrees Celcius and Uguru says 103 Degrees, lol

Re: IX48 GT3 Incorrect Temperature Reading

it just hasn't had the code updates to read the sensors in that CPU properly.

when you flashed via FlashMenu did you use the file from the link that I gave you or do the online update?
The online update won't give you that BIOS version.

Re: IX48 GT3 Incorrect Temperature Reading

Hey should I, rather than update the BIOS, perhaps flash the BIOS although I'm not sure as to which file to use. When I open Flash Menu and go into Update from File there is a file in there called awdflash.bin should I use that one instead?

    Cheers
