I was under the impression that abit went bust and along with it shut down all aspects of the business including support and rma's?

nope, they didn't go bust but couldn't make the margins that their parent company wanted so they pulled the plug on the brand.
they are continuing support for existing products (albeit on a skeleton basis I would imagine).
