Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
I have a Abit IP35 PRO Motherboard, I have AHCI enabled in the BIOS, everytime and try to boot from CD or DVD it won't boot, it will continue to load into Windows. If I go into the BIOS and change it from AHCI to IDE Mode, it boots fine from CD or DVD. My optical drive is SATA not IDE and in the BIOS I have my optical drive set first in the boot device settings. If I need to boot from CD or DVD, will I need to go into the BIOS everytime and change it from AHCI to IDE Mode?
Thanks,
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
do you have the Intel AHCI drivers installed?
have you checked that your Optical doesn't show up in the Boot priority list under it's own specific listing (& not just the generic) - if you scroll down it's usually something like 2nd or 3rd from bottom?
BIOS version?
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
Hi BUFF,
I Got it to BOOT from CD with AHCI enabled, Thanks to you. :-) I have not tried it with a DVD yet. I went into the BIOS and I had a generic "SATA CDROM" selected instead of my actual Optical drive. My question is now, when I booted from a CD I got Verifying DMI Pool DATA.........Boot from AHCI CD-ROM 1. NO EMULATION SYSTEM TYPE- 00. Is that normal? I have a Blu-ray burner, so for it to say CD-ROM?
My BIOS version is Phoenix - Award BIOS v6.00PG.

haven't a clue because a) I found no reason for me to run AHCI & b) I don't have a BR drive

no, it's not - that's the base version of Award that abit built on.
what's the compile date?
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
The only thing that I see is"AHCI OPTION ROM BIOS REVISION: 01.02.80 DATE: 02-09-2007". &
"PCIE - to - SATAII/IDE RAID CONTROLLER BIOS V1.06.69".
If any of these are not correct, can you give me step-by-step tutorial on how to find the BIOS?
Do you think everything is fine?
Thanks,
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
The thing is with "1. NO EMULATION SYSTEM TYPE- 00" I can boot from CD, and I can boot into Windows. So I don't know if it's a real problem because everything seems to work just fine. I don't know.
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
do you run the uGuru GUI?
If so that will tell you your abit BIOS version.
it doesn't sound like you have a problem (or at least 1 worth concerning yourself with) to me though.
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
Yes, I have abit uGuru installed, SMBIOS Version 2.5
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
open uGuru, go to Flashmenu section - what version/compile date does it give?
e.g. http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/mainb...flash_menu.jpg
obviously this is an IX38 QuadGT not an IP35 Pro but you get the idea ...
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
Do I feel like a idiot, I didn't even think to look in the "FlashMenu". Thanks,
BIOS Version: P35-W627DHG-
6A79OA1BC-14.
Flash Rom Type:
WINBOND 39V080F/3.3V
BIOS Date:
09/06/2007
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
OK, so you are on version 14.
If you don't have any real problems that you are aware of then I wouldn't bother upgrading.
If you do want to upgrade then there are various later official BIOS available (http://abithelp.com/abit_downloads.php may be more reliable than th eofficial abit server) plus 1 or 2 betas here at Hexus.
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
I don't have any real problems that I can think of, when my computer boots I see this,
Port 01: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH08LS20 SATA-1 CD-ROM/DVD-ROM
Port 02: Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 SATA-2 Hard Disk 1000GB
Port 05: Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 SATA-2 Hard Disk 1000GB
I do have a floppy reader installed, would this be a conflict?
I only see "1. NO EMULATION SYSTEM TYPE- 00" when it's booting from CD or DVD, when I take the disc out, CD or DVD I just see "Boot from AHCI CD-ROM" then it loads into Windows.

why would you think that?
Re: Can't boot from CD or DVD with AHCI Enabled
The floppy reader is from when I had all IDE, not I have all SATA I didn't know if there was some kind of conflict that could be causing the "1. NO EMULATION SYSTEM TYPE- 00". Just an idea.
