    Drivers For Win 7 Installation

    Hi Gang,

I’m brand new on this forum today and would really appreciate some help. I suspect these questions will be real simple for you folks.

I have an Abit IP35 Pro (IP35+ICHR9R) motherboard with an Intel Quad Q6600 processor and four gigs of G.Skill RAM that’s served me very well under Windows XP for the last three years. Sometime later today or tomorrow I’ll be taking the computer down to install 8 gigs of Kingston RAM and 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. I don’t use RAID, but I do have three hard drives – a 150 gig SATA Raptor for the OS and two 750 gig Western Digital SATA drives for data.

    My question is:

What drivers do I need to install with Windows 7 and in what order? And where can I find the most current ones?

Previously, I installed the ACHI driver (whatever that is) during initial WinXP installation and then the Intel Matrix Storage Manager, JMicron SATA, RealTek HD Audio and RealTek LAN drivers after WinXP was running. I’m not real sure what all those do, but I installed them and the machine ran great. Can you give me a list of what I need and when to install it?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Dave

PS I did review Nelly’s sticky post and saw the links to drivers, but the date on the page was pretty old. Are those still current?

Seriously? I don't have to load drivers from other disks? That's too good to be true!

I'm fairly sure that the disk has a version of the Intel chipset drivers on it. I've found that it's usually your network and sound that aren't included on the Win 7 disk.

It might be worth while seeing what driver is installed for your network port so that you can at least go online and look for anything that Windows 7 doesn't find, if anything.

Re: Drivers For Win 7 Installation

I just installed Win 7 64-bit and everything seems to have gone fairly well, but there is an "Unknown Device" in Device Manager now. Any ideas what that could be? At first I thought it was the JMicron JMB36X Controller but that's installed under "Storage Controllers."

If the order matters, reading down Device Manager it says:

    Monitors
    Network adapters
    Other devices
    - Unknown device
    Processors

    Many thanks.

If you right click on it and click on properties or something similar you will be able to see more information about the device.

Thanks, but it just says it's an unknown device on the PCI bus. Not much other info except that the hardware id is "ACPI/ABT2005," which isn't much help to me.

I have never experienced that hardware ID before, the only option I can provide you is try googling "ACPI/ABT2005". I'm sure someone out there has encountered this problem before.

  10. Received thanks from:

Good advice on the Google search. It turned out to be Abit's uGuru. I installed it and the Unknown Device didn't show up anymore. Many thanks.

Sweet! Glad everything is working, if there's any more problems you know where to come to

Yep, you might see me again.

FYI, I installed Win 7 and I'm not sure I like it. For one thing, they don't have drivers for my monitor and it doesn't look at good. Oh, well.
