    IP35-E with Q8400 - Problems

    Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I decided it was time to upgrade my computer from a 2ghz Dual Core processor, to the Quad Core Q8400. Now, I am aware that this was not on the list of compatible processors for my mobo (IP35-e) But I thought I would take the risk anyway... something i'm regretting now.

Anywho. I got the processor, and it wouldn't boot out of the box due to old bios. I upgraded my bios to the 18b1 latest version, and got it all working. Now I had the issue of the mobo reading the cpu temp as 98c. This wasn't really an issue, as I looked around and found that others had this and just dealt with it / ignored it by monitoring their fans themselves. All was well until I decided to play a game on my newly upgraded computer.

Things looked good for the first 5/10 mins, and I was enjoying the increased speed, when the entire game and computer locked up.. i waited but it didn't respond so I had to do a hard reboot. It's not the graphics card because i've had the same one previously (plus it runs exactly the same in linux so its not a driver issue). I then used Super95 to run a toruture test, which lasted all of 30 seconds before killing the computer.. making it freeze up again and causing me to hard reboot.

I thought it would be a good idea to run memtest, so upon attemping that... it ran for a few mins before again... dying hehe =\ and as you know... memtest is pretty damn hard to freeze up. So do you guys thing this is just an incompatability with the CPU? if this is the case, I will send it back and get myself a nice i5 (plus a new mobo of course ) xD thanks guys =] sorry for the long-winded post. Also I know this probably isnt important but the Q8400 stock speed is 2.66, and im running it stock but it's actually going at 2720.095 - I'm being precise xD

Thank you for taking the time to help, guys =]

Edit: A bit more info - i tried Prime95 again and using only 1 thread to torture test it ran fine... when i kicked it back up to the default 2 threads it froze within 30 seconds. Also I used Hyper Pi and managed to complete 8M in about 7 mins with no problems o.O so this whole thing is confusing the heck out of me

    Re: IP35-E with Q8400 - Problems

Where did you get the Bios you flashed ?
I guess your problems are related to an early beta bios.
The latest one from abit should solve the temperature issues as well as bring increased compatibility.
Contact me under Rolo01 at gmx.de and I`ll send you that bios.
