Migrating IDE PATA to SATA on an IC7G

I have a PC with Abit IC7G motherboard and an IDE PATA drive. The drive is conected on the IDE header, not via the Abit serillel adaptor on the SATA port. SATA drives were very expensive c.f PATA when I bought it.
Yes, it is old and I won;t get optimal use of SATA III but that's what I have to work with.

I want to migrate the OS and data on the IDE PATA primary drive to a SATA drive. What is the best way to go about this?
Will the BIOS (latest revision) recognise a drive on the IDE header and a drive on the SATA header at the same time?
Would I have to put the IDE Drive on a serillel adaptor into the SATA header and have both drives.
What do I set the jumpers on the drives and the Bios settings as.

    Many thanks.

Re: Migrating IDE PATA to SATA on an IC7G

My old PC used an IC7-G, I had the main disk on the PATA cable, and a Raptor on the SATA port, both worked fine like that.

Its not an either/or thing, you can use both sets of connectors.

As for making the SATA the boot drive, im not sure, I never did that, but you could certainly connect it all up and copy the data, then try changing the bios boot order until it works.

Make sure all the sil3112 drivers are installed on the IDE drive. Then you can clone the data and O/S onto the SATA drive using G4L or norton ghost.
