IN9 32MAX PSU or MOBO problem ?

My abit board (IN9 32MAX) worked fine for 4 years now..
When I could not get a POST after unplugging the powercord I suspected the ZALMAN HP-600 PSU could be the problem.
Symptoms:
After unplugging the PSU for a couple of hours:
Only after a turn off - turn on - turn off - turn on sequence I could get at least the mobo LED working again.
Checked the capacitors for bulges or leaks but could not find (or measure!) any defects on those..

So I went for a new PSU (OCZ MOD XstreamPro 700W). Well that was a major disappointment, no POST (checked the PSU on an older board no problem at all)..
Put in the old ZALMAN again, and with the 'old sequence' I can get the board running again if the powercord has been unplugged for a couple of hours.

Are the Abit boards that picky about the PSU ?

IF it is a PSU problem what PSU would be good enough ?
I do have two power hungry 8800GT's in SLI (which are not melted yet, so getting rare)..

check the cmos battery, should be 3.3v..
