    Unhappy AW8-MAX Heat spreader problem

    Hi,

I just bought an AW8-MAX from aria.co.uk and it arrived today but the heat spreader on the FSB is at a slight angle on the chip...I can see a gap between the spreader and the chip.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a quick fix for it that I can attempt without damaging the motherboard? The side that is raised is one of the two sides without screws holding it down.

I don't really want to have to return it to Aria as I had quite a few problems getting my order in the first place and I can't see anywhere to get an RMA for Abit in the UK which is a bit strange.

    Help!

    Hi,

I've sent two pictures I hope shows the problem off to the email addresses from your post.

Also, to clarify...it's the AW8-MAX not the AW8D but I only received it today.

    Regards,

I decided to give the motherboard a go anyway.

I put it together and booted it up with the following:

    Pentium D 805
    Zalman CPS9500
    2 x Geil 512Mb DDR2 667Mhz RAM
    XFX 7600GS

First time I got a 2-tone beep and no video until I realised I'd not plugged the fan-mate into the Zalman and it wasn't spinning so I connected that up. Doh!

Now I get no beep and no video and 9.0 is displayed on the LCD screen on the MBoard.

I tried taking the graphics card out but the same happened so I guess it's nothing to do with that and looking in the manual it seems it isn't getting into the Award BIOS.

I cleared the CMOS a couple of times but with no luck and also tried swapping RAM and PSU's (550W).

Is there anything else I can try?

It could be an issue with the bios version and the Pentium D CPU.

After checking the photos you sent us we strongly recommend that you send the board back to the retailer for a replacement.
