Question Setting AB9 Pro to run Smoothly...

    Hi there,

I've just finished putting together a new PC, and as you might guess I've chosen AB9 PRO.

It took me a few tries to realise that the Jmicron Raid drivers where needed to install windows ., contrary to what I was told. After that all fine but two small issues. I was hoping if you guys ca help me solve them.

My first question is the CPU, it doesn't turn off when the PC is ON Standby nor if I Log Off. I say this because the CPU fan is always ON, I've set windows to turn off the Monitor and HDD after 30min and it does, but the CPU itself is on...

My second question is about the FlashMenu that comes with uGuru, it doesn't recognise my BIOS version and it doesn't update them either.
    it reads BOS Version: i965-W627EHG-6A79LA1AC-00

    PC specs:

    Windows XP Pro SP2
    Motherboard - abit AB9 PRO
    Power Supply - OCZ 520W
    Processor - Intel Pentim D 915 dual core 2 x 2.80GHz
Video card - Asus Extreme AX550
    Memory - Corsair 2 x 512MB 667MHZ-5400 DDR2
    HHD - Hitachi 250G SATA II 8MB
    DVD-ROM - Pioner DVD-RW DVR

I'd like to know what would be the best BIOS settings for this PC,?

    all the best

afaik it should be on but you should be able to use FanEQ to vary fan speed with temp

If you download the new BIOS .bin file locally (e.g. to your desktop) you can use FlashMenu in "update from file mode".
Of course you can also do it the good, old-fashioned way with a floppy in DOS.

    Hi there,

1- I thought the CPU goes on Standby just like windows or the HHD, I've set the fan speeds to Normal but I still think that the CPU should be able to go on standby.

2- I tried to update my bios from the file on my desktop, and still get the same BOS Version: i965-W627EHG-6A79LA1AC-00. Haven't tried the floppy yet, maybe it will be the solution.

    Any other suggestions?

    cheers

right, so you have downloaded e.g. http://file.abit.com.tw/pub/download...ab9//ab913.zip to the desktop & extracted the.bin file from it?

You have then opened FlashMenu, clicked on "update from file" & directed it to the extracted .bin & told it to proceed & flash the BIOS?

If you have done that does it appear to programme the BIOS or does it give an error message or what?

1- I got you how do I set it to stop running if the CPU is not running ?

2- just like you said, I don't get an error during the update but what I ment was when I open the flash menu after rebooting the BIOS version still shows the same. Thats what throws me..

    thank you

you can't but you can get it (& other fans) to run slower using FanEQ.
Intel also have EIST which should help keep things quiet.

    have done,

I am confused by my previous PC, because everytime it went on Standby the fans were off and when I'd move the mouse or tap the keyboard I could hear the Fan going at the same time woth the HDD.

that's why I asked if it is possible?

I have another issue: uGuru - FanEQ doesn't read the speed of any of the PC fans but only the CPU fan.
    Any ideas why?

are the fans connected to the mobo fan headers?
have you selected them to be read in FanEQ/AbitEQ?

Yes they are, I have three fans connected to the mobo.
Front,, Rear, Side Fan and they all work fine, is that when I set them up with uGuru there are no readings and it gives me a red warning sign.
Not sure why, but it reads the CPU fan speed.

Are all these fans powered off the motherboard i.e. do they have only one wire going to the header which connects to the motherboard.
If not and you have a power connecter i.e. a 4 pin molex connector are the fan speed control wires - the yellow wire connected to the fan headers on the mobo.
You can also check in the bios to see if the motherboard reads the fan speads to determine if it is the software that is at fault.
    Hope this helps.

do your case fans have 3 leads to the connector?
if they only have 2 then they don't have rpm sensing.

I realised today that the fans have only 2 leads. Will buy new ones tomorow and see.

I'm still trying to understand how is it possible that when my laptop is on Standby the fan goes off, but when my new PC is on standby all the Fans are still on. #

Is there a way to configure my mobo or BIOS so when I leave the PC on standby the rest of the Fans go on Standby?

sorry to ask the same Q? but me old PC did this and my PC at work works the same.
