    Aw9d-max Help !!

Hello, I'm new here, So I say a big hello.

I have a abit AW9D-Max but I wish to Install windows XP Pro on AHCI mode, so I have created a intel floppy disk but I soon as I switch over to AHCI and try and install xp pro it will not allow to use the drivers it finds errors on the oem file. Can you help ? Also will be looking to tweak this soon. Have got a Intel E6300, 2gb of Geil Value DDR800 (5,5,5,15) Corsair 520 watt PSU, Powercolor ATI Radeon 1950pro 256mb.

I have just rebooted the computer and all I now get is a black screen and a boot code of 2a. If I clear the Cmos I cannot enter the bios to anything or if I just press F1 to continue it will not load into windows. Does anyone have any ideas. Bios is version 13

YUP here is what you need to do, to install the floppy drivers, install windows xp , when you are in the 'blue' ms-dos section hit F6 and select to isntall drivers from flappy disk. As ahci USES YOUR SATA DRIVE A AT FULL SPEED, anything else apart from raid uses compatibility mode()

If you stil lget oem driver problems try the updated drivers onthe usa forums

    Aw9d-max Bios issues

    Hello

Thanks for the reply. However I'm having a bigger issue now. I cannot even get the computer to post. The diagnostic show me a code of 2A, when I reset the CMOS it will then post, but I cannot enter the bios to do any settings because it hangs. Any ideas, I really like this board

    Is the bios corrupt ?

have you done a complete cmos reset of the bios?
Also have a look at this thread for the 1.5beta bios there is mention of the 2a hang being resolved. Try resetting the CMOS first thou.

I have tried to do a ALT F2 flash but it does not initalize the floppy drive, Is the bios borked.

I think I agree the Bios chip may well be knackered.
Contact Saen or M at AbitUK and they can send a replacement chip see

Thier contact details inc phone are thier. Might be worth giving them a ring Monday and explain the problems you have had. Sad start. All I can say is once its running its a good board to have. I am on BIO 1.3 and its stable.

Thanks for all your help, I will send abit a letter with a postal order so I get one. I will report back here when I get it runnning as I would like to run it in AHCI mode as I think this is the most efficent use of the sata drives. Is there any tips or bios settings that I may need to change to ?

    Regards
    James

The Bios 14 has issues (well documented here).
The BIos13 is very good (or so it appears anyway).

Hopefully, ABIT will sort 14 out soon enough. Then again, Arsenal might do the treble next season
