an9 32x fatality networking randomly disconnects

Sean or anybody else who can help,
is this a hardware problem or is this a setting issue but my an9 32x fatality network adapter randomly disconnects from 1 gig then reconnects at 100mbs and vice versa which is causing a few problems as I have abandoned my wireless card.
I am going to try the other adapter to see if this happens, any ideas anyone??

One possible reason is that your connection (including motherboard, cable and other Ethernet device) isn't up to scratch. It's probably worth checking that your cable is CAT5e or CAT6 and not CAT5. Unless you need 1Gb speeds, the reliability will probably be improved by manually setting your motherboard to 100Mb only. Do this by bringing up the device manager (right click on My Computer and select Manage - device manager is in the left hand screen), looking under network adaptors and finding your Ethernet device. Right click on it, bring up properties and look under the advanced tab for the Link Speed and Duplex setting. If you're connecting to a switch then select 100Mb and full duplex. If you're connected to a hub then select half duplex instead.

This is worth doing as an experiment at least to see if speed makes any difference to the stability of your connection.

I've hit disconnections with built in Broadcom Ethernet before which seemed unfixable through drivers, settings or cabling. In the end, I've installed a 3Com NIC in that machine and now it runs perfectly.

    Hope this helps

    Stuart

    update

If I use the bottom lan it is ok, if I use the top lan connector it drops the connection for a while before settling at 100 mbps and then drops randomly.
