    HD 6850 and aftermarket fans.

    Peeps

Been having issues with my new 6850. The fan stopped working effectively a month back and been trying to RMA it through the company I bought it from.

They need the whole box and stuff sent back with it ( but the wife has chucked it out even though se denies it and I cannot find it anywhere ) so not sure if they will take it.

My next option is to buy a Arctic Cooler Accelero twin turbo 2 and fit that but bit unsure about it.

saw a you tube about it and the review says that the VRM's are cooler with the stock cooler than the twin turbo.

Does look good but don't wanna fry my card.

    Any pointers????

Re: HD 6850 and aftermarket fans.

I don't think you need the box if the card is still under warranty and you have the receipt to prove purchase and how old it is. Had a tesco brand tv once which even had their store address and even the date they took the stock, but no receipt = no warranty. At the end of the day you just can't keep every box or you would need 2 houses to live in.

The card was bought from a shop on eBay and the seller has been in contact and says that the warranty is through them with xfx.

Sent them an email today to see if they will take it back without the box.

I presumed that they would require all original contents back.

The box is irrelevant - only the card should be needed. Don't allow them to wangle out of providing the warranty.

As my wife has just pointed out to me, when see returned her galaxy S2 last week for repair, she didn't need to send it away in the box, just the phone.

In all emails with the seller, it was never brought up that I needed to send it back with the box, just to send it in.

I will await the reply from them first.

To get back on topic slightly, how are those aftermarker fan? Also saw a zalman V3000 as well.

Might temp me in to OCing it slightly, however I am more a cool running kinda guy.

Great news! At least you don't have to endure the awful customer service from XFX (i did a couple of years ago with a pair of 5850's... A total nightmare!). XFX actually leave it upto the retailer to sort out RMA's these days if i'm correct?

    I am glad too.

XFX use the retailers now for RMA. I contacted them first and then they told me to contact the seller first.

now need to find a box to put it in.

Re: HD 6850 and aftermarket fans.

You are covered by the sales and goods act. You do not need a box and you have three options depending on how old it is.
    1. Refund
    2. Replacement
    3. Repair

I personally would demand a replacement if the product is less than 6 months old. Once you have excepted a replacement you are no longer entitled to a repair and once you have accepted a repair you are no longer eligdable to a replacement.

Never except a repair as a first stage!
