old G3 powerbook needs a defribilator
G3 Powerbook 400MHz/64Mb, bronze keyboard, firewire ports, so I think it's one of the later models (bought circa 2001?)
It was working fine.
It got put in a drawer for about 6-12 months (due to an upgrade)
It no longer boots up.
We took it to a mac repair shop and their response was something like "it's probably the sound card" and they recommended we not bother fixing it as it was obsolete and then tried to sell us a new model. I've taken it to bits, could not see anything obviously wrong, no visible loose connections. The psu is fine and the battery still charges up (little green lights) with a bit of coaxing. I have tried to follow instructions to clear the PRAM using various key combinations and the reset button etc to no avail.
The only sign of life is that if I plug it in and hit the power button I can turn the num-lock and caps-lock LEDs on and off. Then if I hold the power button in for ~7 seconds the numlock and capslock LEDS switch off. From this I assume something it starting up but quite what I do not know.
Any other tricks and the like to try? Preferrably ones that do not require spare parts!
