Re: So after 24 hours use... what do I REALLY think?
I have recently gone back to Windows after using OSX for about 1 1/2 years. My G4 12" powerbook was great but there were jsut enough niggles for me to convert back. Mainly that I could never get the thing to sync in a truely useful way with my windows phone!
I would happily have another mac again but have not become a mac snob as I have seen happen to some of my friends.
Re: So after 24 hours use... what do I REALLY think?
neoOffice is a pretty good replacement for MS-Office.
Cyberduck is a pretty decent ftp client.
I splashed out on the logitech keyboard and mouse kit for my macmini media server:

It's much much better than the mighty mouse stuff.
I use all sorts of stuff - Linux, AIX, Solaris, and various Windows incarnations, and only bought a mac recently having played with my folks one. I find it really is very surprising how things 'just work', and as soon as they release one which will take a 8800GTX (to play games in bootcamp on) I'll dump all my other Windows/Linux stuff.

not happening. even their most high-end workstation only comes with a 7300gt
Re: So after 24 hours use... what do I REALLY think?
Yes but it can also be configured with 4x 7300gt's lol
and thats the lowest configuration from memory. Theres quadros and Ati's too which are plenty good enough for games.
The new imac comes with the Ati 2600 which is proving to be quite a good mobile card.. not at an imac's resolution though.

what do you need the graphics for? I've got the new iMac with the 26 Pro in it - and it's fine for 2D - I'm not running games :)
Re: So after 24 hours use... what do I REALLY think?
@directhex - you can configure them with X1900s and some workstation grade nVidia card. The new Macbook pro ships with an 8600 mobile chipset, so there's no reason to assume that it won't happen at some point.
Re: So after 24 hours use... what do I REALLY think?
... I am just installing NeoOffice now... and CS3 will happen this week sometime - but putting on Gimp in the meantime
Re: So after 24 hours use... what do I REALLY think?
You can use just about any pc mouse on the mac so you don't have to use the might mouse which is quite frankly awful.
I've always been surprised at the lack of side to side or height adjustments with the mac monitors/iMac's in general.
iWork is a great alternative to office and office 2004 is painful on the intel macs.

I agree - although MS have released a fingerprint scanner in the past that let you log into windows and websites (with IE only of course). I've got one on the desk at home - not plugged in cos I got bored of it :)
Interesting OP tho, thanks. I don't really come into contact with OSX aside from when i'm ham fistedly trying to sort out my sister's lappy. I quite like it but..
Re: So after 24 hours use... what do I REALLY think?
Well, this thread has been rather helpful.
After my A-level results day tomorrow, if I get my place I'll be deciding on whether or not I want to get a macbook or a laptop for Uni work and this thread kinda makes the decision a little easier. Kind of.
