There isn't a lot for the Mac, but this has been discussed quite a lot on th SlimDevices (home of the SqueezeBox) forums. I think one of the forum members has been involved in the development of this too.

Just don't use iTunes to produce mp3s.
If it is windows you could have used ExactAudioCopy
But I guess iTunes is your best bet on Mac.

Time was against me - I had to get the 5 CD's ripped and on to the phone... will re-rip them when I get home.
MARS is by far the best piece of ripping software for OSX.
