Building? It's hand made then?
Yup took me a couple of hours to knock up.
It's basically four table legs from ikea and some wood cut to size.
A pic mid build
It's not that hard to build one yourself.
Could you do us a little project log Gordy when you build the smaller version for us people that are less experienced with working with wood? :)
What size is the desk you currently occupy?
Also, how do you find web designing using the apple? I've never really properly used it tbh...
gahh - too tidy!!! I'll post a shot of my Mac work area one of these days.
Please do, I hate an untidy desk so mine is nearly always very clean :)
Will do. Its very simple to do, I only took the odd picture of the building the first one. Its approximately 2m x 0.8m in size so massive hehe.
Web designing with os x is pretty similar to using windows, only issues are with font's really as the mac version of firefox handles them differently to windows versions. Though with vmware running windows xp I can test in firefox (osx and windows) safari and internet explorer all at once. Saves a lot of time.
Cheers Gordy.
Let me know when you create a little log, i'm considering building something similar as my 20" LG and 17" Laptop really do not fit very well on a Argos 70cm Desk! :(
I\'ll certainly have to give macs a try soon then.
I haven't created a log yet, but here are the pics of my progress so far.
Building my Desk

They were taken on my mobile as my camera is Norfolk.
I still need to make the back of the desk to hide the cables, but I will not have a chance to do that for a week or two.
I'm pretty happy with the results, only issues I had was the walls not being straight, and me putting the cable hole on the wrong side of the desk doh! Luckily turning it round fixed it, but it could have been a proper balls up!
I learnt a lot this time around from doing it before, in fact its made me think about re doing the original desk. I want to make space for a filing cabinet anyway.
Done the log : http://forums.hexus.net/project-logs...-building.html
Gordy,
well done. I've found this thread very interesting.
Cheers Gordy.
Im considering building something like that for project that im doing- a Tv Appliance Holder.
loving that desk gordy mate, putting me in the mood to make my own next one rather than buying some pos from ikea...
Its well worth doing chopper. It's not hard do make one, and you get one to fit perfectly in place.
Just to give you all and update. I've not regretted the decision to clear my computers out and just use the mac.
I've just finished a bit of an upgrade on my two macs left. First my macbook pro got a wireless N upgrade. This was relatively easy to do, I've opened it up before so I knew what to expect.
Then I decided to upgrade my girlfriends mini as well. I had a 2ghz intel core duo chip going spare, I got 2gb of ram and a wireless N card for it. I have to say its one of the hardest systems I've ever worked on. Everything is hard to access due to its size. The cpu upgrade was a nightmare as the heatsink pins just break very easily. I broke 3 of the 4 putting them back in. Luckily I replaced them with bolts. Works much better.
I will write a thread with the upgrade info for others that are interested in doing it.
ooh n on your MBP? tell tell! ;)
