So any Hexites getting/got one?
I'm thinking about it, I'm due an upgrade but not sure if I'll miss the ability to txt/email with a proper keyboard as I'm a blackberry user.

I was considering one, but the cost is far too high for it to even be on my consider list.
Thing that gets me, is the news reports saying... "ooh, it costs £900 because you have to have line rental"
Well even my "free" blackberry pearl costs me £45 every month for a min of 12months!
The cost is prohibitive for me too... when you consider that an iPod touch gets you the same UI and cool factor, for £200, and you can get some fantastic phones free on cheaper contracts, it doesn't really make sense.

"Dell? You get better tech support with a cheese sandwich"
But at least with the higher end contracts with normal phones it is free. With the iPhone you get screwed on both.
nah... maybe when they bring out a better and cheaper one, with better and cheaper contracts
Again, it looks like a cool gadget, and if someone gave me one I'd probably love it, but as well as the prohibitive cost (if i actually paid for my own phone, I'd probably spend about £10 pm on PAYG) the TV adverts sound so insufferably smug, I'd have to strongly resist the immense urge to repeatedly kick myself in the face for owning one.
I was interested initially before the full details of the European phone came out, but after the details emerged, I'd have to say that I'm giving it a miss.
It seems rather pointless with no 3G over here, and the O2 iPhone Tariffs are utterly hopeless - even after they u-turned on the limited unlimited data thing, EDGE is virtually non-existent outside of London (and won't be for the foreseeable), so you'd be on GPRS most of the time. and you only get half the minutes/texts of even their current tariffs.
A 3G (HSPDA) iPhone on t-mobile's Web'n'Walk would have been perfect!
Oh well..

I've got one, and despite what's been mentioned above, it seems to work rather well.
The Edge/GPRS doesn't actually seem that slow, given that well, it is. There's obviously some rather good optimisation going on in Safari to keep it useable. Frankly, the quality of the browser (after using Internet Explorer Mobile on my MDA Pro) far outweighs any extra wait to download.
The visual voicemail is slick and easy, and everything just works. Again, if you want to customise everything, don't bother, but it seems to work for me.
I still haven't got everything down with it, as I've only had it for 3 and a bit days, but it works well, and the internet/emailing was definitely useable and quick enough for me. We even managed some moblogging in the car using the pictures from the camera, straight from the box: St andrews to london with an iphone

I have to say I've been very surprised by the feedback on the iPhone from various uk techie forums. Nearly everyone has said they are very unimpressed by the phone/package. There seem to be very few people who got the phone either.
If they can't sell it to techie's who love apple products and who are generally first adopters who can they sell it to??
keeping with my blackberry - my blackberry is a typing workhorse
i can't type with the iphone!
I tried the iPhone in the CFW - and wasn't impressed. Ditto the iPod Touch. Infact, I just bought an iPod Classic 80g.
I have a £50 PAYG phone on Orange that gets topped up about once every 6 months with 20 quid. Until a PAYG iPhone arrives, I'm not interested.
Once a PAYG iPhone arrives....I'll be interested IF...
The camera improves
It can record movies
3rd party apps arrive to allow watching of streaming media
'not the mobile internet'...yeah - without Java and Flash....right.
MMS is added
etc etc etc
I bought a Macbook in May...but you can keep the iPhone.

I'll just point out that previous to last week - i was a total anti-iPod person. I thought they they brought nothing new to the table and were pointless to buy when there was others on the market.
However... The other day I found myself in Curry's, with the christmas madness going on around me, buying an iPod Touch. The thing is awesome... That is of course; if you "jailbreak" it. (Jailbreaking basically hacks the iPod in a minor way, allowing you to download awesome apps using wifi to add to your iPod, something that Apple should have implemented in the first place!). It's a seriously nifty bit of kit, and if you want an iPod touch as well as a phone, then get the iPhone... It'll cost you around the same, you just consolidate the technology into 1 area.
