whats the deal with bringing an ipod back from america??

is it covered by a warrenty, or does apple warrenty only work in the countryof purchase???

are they any cheaper then over here??

basically its for the wifes birthday, so i need to find out pretty quick if its worth bothering, or do i just buy one over here

    Re: ipods from america

I'm pretty sure the warranty is worldwide on iPods but I know for the iPhone that isn't the case.

They are cheaper over in the US. Check the prices on apple.com but remember you need to add state sales tax on top of the prices you see, the percentage varies from state to state.

Pretty sure Apples warranties for everything are country of purchase only. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

You may be right, but I know it wasn't always the case. If I see any of my friends that work for Apple pop up on MSN I'll give them a prod and see if they know.

Anything portable (and not specifically locked to a region) is a world wide warranty.

I've just ordered an iPod on Amazon.com
For some reason when I checked it out there was NO state tax added to the order.

    They are waaay cheaper too.

    I got an:

    iPod 160GB Classic
    sony Fontopia earphones
    leather ipod case
    4 CDs
Cost in GBP was £223( Free shipping) - that's less than the cost of an iPod 160GB from Apple.co.uk(£229+shipping) :-)

Only thing with doing it this way is that Amazon.com won't ship to a UK address - but my GF is visiting relatives next week in Florida. So the only downside to doing it this way is that you have to wait..... :-(

    Re: ipods from america

I can confirm from personal experience that I had some warranty work done on my Mac (US) while in Europe. Apple is pretty good about those things, as they should be considering how much I paid for the thing.
