Waiting patiently for my new MBP - what's the gaming performance like?

Curious to know what sort of framerate I would get in BootCamp (XP) with a modern game like BioShock at the standard screen res and moderate settings? I got the low end MBP with only 256MB of video RAM...

Cant really find any windows gaming benchmarks, maybe that's not too surpsrising...

Not sure about frame rates, but on my macbook pro (it was the top end 15.4 before the upgrades) so its got a 256 Nvidia 8600GT. And it handles COD4 on medium fine, TF2/most source games on max, at the standard resoultion. So id presume Bioshock would run fairly well on medium ish settings.

Good stuff. Does the thing sound like it is about to take off after playing for 10 minutes?

DaBeeeenster have you ordered one of the new mbp's or a refurb?

I would imagine you won't have any problems running any modern game on the mbp though taxing games like bioshock will probably require playing with the settings.

Yeah I was looking at the price I could get for my current one and it was much more than I thought so it made sense to change it now rather than wait for another year or so.

Going for the 2.4ghz 15in mbp with a 250gb hard drive.

sounds good... I'm in 2 minds over what to do right now picked up a new dell 2407-hc (for quite a good price actually) and was thinking about getting a 15" mbp (edu discount, yay!) to hook it up to - mobile and home solution in one!
but then being on a pc, and that this would probably mean a move over to mac's it got me pondering to see if there's something I've been missing, and then I found these . aesthetics aside there's a couple that don't seem too bad; T7250, 8600GT and higher-res screen, ram upgradable 4gb, and half the price! ok it has vista and bloatware that can be removed (SOP for Dells!) but seems reasonable as a mobile solution. or could someone slap me back to reality are macs just that much better for what I have in mind?

either way I've got a cool monitor to work on as I ponder things

yeah your probably right. thing is, and I know its a detail, but how does photoshop handle on a mbp, just wondering about a scratch disk of some sort, may not be much of an issue with 4gb ram but it got me thinking...i could just go McPro but then defeats portability idea, and is a bit more ££

Not sure on that as I only use ps for small stuff from time to time. That said if there were issues with it on the mbp they would be making headlines so I doubt you will have any issues just using the mbp.
