Connecting iPod classic to TV to play videos.

I intend buying a 160GB iPod Classic next week.
I would like to transfer DVDs onto it.
What I would like to know is what would the picture quality be like if played back on a 15LCD TV?
I know you can get a lead to connect the iPod to the TV.
Also, if I copied VHS onto a DVD recorder could I easily import it onto my iBook? ? import from DVD.
That way I could put old home movies on the iPod.
    Thanks, any advice appreciated.

Re: Connecting iPod classic to TV to play videos.

I've got an iPod video 5g, picture quality of converted videos is actually reasonably good on a bigger screen - much better than youtube quality.

With the iPod classic you need a special lead to watch the video on a TV though, you used to be able to use any old cheapie off ebay, but they've locked it down now.

There's plenty of programs that will convert your videos for ipod watching, Handbrake is probably the best known but it is very CPU intensive, so expect to be waiting around for quite a while...
