It's where the f keys are slightly slanted. Eg not parallel to the rest of the keyboard. It's barely noticeable really. In fact if I hadn't read about it beforehand I probably wouldn't have noticed.

I was going to order my MBP from Hong Kong (a saving of £400). But the exchange rates suddenly dopped so low...Oh well.
Here's a piccie of my new macbook at home.

Nice setup Gordy - what model of Macbook did you go for? What upgrades (if any) did you apply to the standard options on your chosen model?
It looks great - and the glass looks clear, no reflection problems. Must say I envy your set up, it looks very smart. What Macbook did you go for? I see you have an Imac - do you prefer the Macbook or the Imac? I am still hesitating between the two! I like to watch Iplayer on my laptop - is the Mac good for that?
It's the 2.4ghz version with no upgrades. I didn't need any extra ram and I'm waiting for 500gb hdd to come down in price before upgrading myself.
I don't have an iMac though I've used one and setup one for my Mum. Both are great, but they are very different beasts for different situations. I'd say a macbook and external display are far more flexible than an iMac. It depends on your budget though. iPlayer works on my macbook fine.
I was expecting to have issues with the glossy display, but I can't say I've had a single issue with it so far. However I mainly use the macbook on my acd, so I'm slightly different than most users.
Shows how much (or rather how little!) I know about Apple computers! I thought the desktop was an Imac - is that the monitor you can attach your Macbook to? I think your new Macbook is the same one I am looking at. I see the Apple Store sells cinema screens from £399 which you can connect the Macbook to. I do prefer laptops but sometimes it is useful to have the option to work on a larger screen, especially with photos and Iplayer.
Thank you for posting your update - I will be visiting the Apple Store asap for a demo and should soon have my very own Macbook.
The £399 cinema display is the one I have in the picture above, though I only paid £200 for it on ebay yay! Personally I would wait before buying an apple display right now as they've just released the new 24in one and I'm sure the 20in version will be come sooner or later. £399 is a heck of a lot to pay for a 20in lcd however nice it is.
Your set up does look good and it is what I plan to get. I will have to save up for the monitor. In the meantime I have my small flat screen tv and have checked the manual and I will be able to connect the macbook to that.
Thanks again for taking the time to post all the info, I have found it very useful.
As long as it has a vga or dvi connector you should be fine. You will need to buy the apple adapter for which ever it has though.
How come you didn't go for MBP?
The macbook is smaller, lighter and cheaper. Without sacrificing performance on the graphics front. I use it mainly on the big display and for brief periods out and about, so the smaller screen doesn't affect what I do. I used to have the 12in powerbook (It's my dads now so its still about). I love the pro features in the smaller package.
I think apple may have shot themselves in the foot with the new macbook as I didn't even really consider the mbp this time around and I've had two of them already!
I think a macbook and a big display are pretty much the ideal package for most users.
Humm, I do agree apple have shot themselves in the foot with the new range.. "we at apple have been listening to our customers and they want a metal enclosure for the macbook, so weve done it!"
so what about us poor macbook pro users? since when did we get left behind? lol, nice.
you know what? I want Ferrari to make a reasonably priced sensible family car...
But yeah.. love the Unibody form.. I guess it diddnt stop me shelling out for the new mbp, so looks like my argument just fell apart!:angst:
Thats good consumer management Apple...
Checked out the new macbook pro/regular in the apple store this weekend and was disappointed that there was no clear distinction between pro and regular.
Also when are apple gonna adopt 1920x1200 on the 15" and put an extra USB port somewhere - I know there was room inside on the older pros.
A minor thing, flash games are gonna get tricky with no mouse button - imagine playing bowmaster without a button?!
PJ, I found there was a clear distinction between the pro and macbook: put them side by side, and the screen on the Pro seems clearer, brighter with more contrast. Oh, and the Pro was a bit bigger ;)
On the strength of the differences in the screen response - and really that alone - I'm saving pennies for a Pro.
I agree there is less of a distinction between the lines, but that is no bad thing. Why should the small notebooks not get the same features? That said the screens on the pro are better as is the performance/graphics plus the firewire is quite a few extra's.
I'd love a high res option, but I'm not surprised apple don't offer it, as it makes it one more thing they have to plan for in manufacturing and support. I don't think outside the 17in MBP it makes too much sense.
As for the extra usb port I think on the macbook at least there simply isn't the room for one. As the motherboard is very very small indeed. I think this was the reason for dropping firewire.
The mouse pad is a button and can be used just the same as the old track pad so I don't think you'd have an issue with any flash game.
