Good riddance. Wish I'd done it about a year ago.

Absolute cheapest is Dixons tax free. Take 15% off list price and that's the price you pay.

Small matter of needing to get to an airport that has a dixons (AND be in the right terminal, yes Birmingham, I'm looking at you ) and also of ensuring they have stock before you make your journey. Not sure if you need to take a flight as there's probably rules and regulations, but it can be an internal flight...

The way mac prices are controlled is not good IMHO .

Yes you need to take a flight as they are in the departure areas, and it needs to be to a non-EU country so you can get duty free.

    Not exactly a bargain then.

Re: best place in the UK to buy a new macbook?

Funkster, that's wrong. Dixons give tax free prices to all travellers, even those travelling domestic (within the UK).

    http://www.dixonstaxfree.co.uk/

I could fly ryanair from manchester to dublin for 1p (taxes paid on some deals) and get the dixons tax free prices...

List price = 1125 quid (978 tax free)

Student discount takes the price down to 1058, which is still 80 quid more expensive than dixons tax free.

Check the website out, as you can order stuff to collect as you're going through. And again, this is completely irrespective of where you're going to. (The rules are different regarding the VAT but Dixons still give you the full discount)

When I said "not sure if you need to take a flight", I mean I'm not sure if you can just book a flight (like the ryanair example), check in, get access to departures, pick up your macbook, then decide you can't go on your flight. I wouldn't recommend this in the current climate

Well I'm happy to be corrected

I honestly thought they had the same rules as the regular duty free stores.

Shame they don't do the Canon 40D or 50D.
