    Macbook Pro & Samsung 40"?

Hi just got macboook pro and wanting to connect it to the tv.

For a start I can't believe it doesnt have hdmi but oh well. Or even minid display port to hdmi. Strange. Anyway I thought i'll get an adapter for VGA (would prefer dvi but my tv only has hdmi and vga).

The only problem is i've heard that people have been having issues with connecting their macbooks to samsung televisions.

Do I have any other options? I have a 5m vga cable sitting here but just ordered the wrong cable off of ebay (got a mini dvi! doh). All I want to do is put my desktop on a big screen. Can't be that hard can it?

    Cheers all. Appreciate any help.

As far as I know, Monoprice is still the only place that stocks the mythical Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter:

    http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Otherwise, the only way I know of is to do mini displayport -> DVI, DVI -> HDMI, but you'll have to route the sound via another mechanism.

From reading the reviews posted on the Monoprice pages (i.e. this one: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/gadgets/0,39...9301961,00.htm ), it appears that mini-display port doesn't support sound yet.

    What a fail by apple.

I know I couldn't believe it when I asked in the apple shop! They have an ethos for minimalist design etc but you can't just use one simple hdmi lead for everything, you need to use an adaper, then a lead from that to the tv for video. Then you need a completely different cable for sound! Seems crazy to me to be honest!

I actually ordered the cable from ebay in the end as I had some cash in paypal. Same item by the looks of it (same pic etc) and coming from california to the uk so will let you know how it works when it arrives.

Re: Macbook Pro & Samsung 40"?

HDMI doesn't support the high resolutions that the display port one does. Hence why apple chose not to use it. It's not perfect, but it's early days adapters etc are coming out already for people whom the apple ones don't cover.

Re: Macbook Pro & Samsung 40"?

And apparently the mini-displayport does support sound in the specification, but they haven't actually implemented it in the new macbook/macbook pro. Apparently in order to get sound via the mini-displayport Apple just needs to issue a firmware update.

Re: Macbook Pro & Samsung 40"?

I'm using a samsung 2032MW. It's sort of a hybrid monitor/tv. My 13" macbook works fine with minidisplay-DVI. You could just use DVI and get an adapter from dvi-hdmi. I'm sure i tried this with my macbook initially, but there was some general resolution problems that i couldn't be bothered to sort out.

Well I have received the HDMI - Mini display port adapter. Was about $35 ish but works no problems and really good picture so definitely a better alternative for me over a VGA or DVI to be honest. Result.
