    Stupid Macbook Pro GPU

For a while now my MBP has been ok but every now and then i get the whole bumpgate thing where the computer doesnt recognise the gpu and i get nothing at all on my monitor.

Does anyone have a solution to get this going again?

Every time this happens i get ready to take it back and the damn thing wakes up and starts working its very irritating being in this limbo.

If it doenst randomly start working again and i do take it back for repairs this will be like the 4th or 5th time its gone in to get something fixed on it, is there anything i can expect after this many faults like... a replacement? lol

    Re: Stupid Macbook Pro GPU

The MBP you bought is inherently faulty; therefore by the SoGA you're entitled to a repair or replacement free of charge.

Fortunately (for you) the NV bump fiasco is widespread and well known; arranging a repair shouldn't be too hard. However the intermittent nature of your problem may be too much to get around the heads of some tech support staff, you'll need to speak slowly and use small words.

My previous laptop, the Dell Vostro 1400 was also affected by the NV bump issue, although a different fault sent it to an early grave; I invoked the SoGA and Dell repaired it without costing me a penny.

This is the problem i have faced in the past, they refuse to repair anything if they cant duplicate the issue. Basically if it goes its usually only for a couple of days and when im ready to take it in for repair it springs back to life. Even forgetting SOGA i am entitled for repair under my Apple care but i have no idea how to prove it too them.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Stupid Macbook Pro GPU

A bit late coming back to this convo, sorry. I suggest calling Apple instead of explaining this to staff in an Apple store, seldom do staff in electronics stores have actual knowledge on what they're selling. Calling Apple should allow your case to be forwarded to higher levels of support who will eventually heed your words and understand the concept of intermittent failure, if initial attempts to arrange a repair with the first person you speak with fails.

Apple have publicly acknowledged the NV bump issue, if you ever have a problem with tech support, point to this fact.

    EDIT: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

But i thought Mac's, i, Pro or otherwise just, work...
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: Stupid Macbook Pro GPU

Thanks for that link DDY i think il get in touch with them today!

Well this isnt entirely Apples fault as a lot of non Apple computers have been affected by it but my macbook has had other issues. The DVD drive breaking twice being the other prominant error i have encountered, this is due to the stupid slot loading drive. The kyboard and mouse completely cutting out.. that was a fun one.

Basically as much as i love the OS, if i didnt need a mac for editing (FCP) i dont think i wud have kept it.

    Re: Stupid Macbook Pro GPU

Well it went off again and i stupidly didnt back the whole thing up so i had to wait for it to come back to life again before i could take it in. Thankfully its done that now so im gunna back it up tonight and take it in for repairs tomorrow.

Il let you know how i get on, hopefully i shouldnt have any issues!
