i wuz just wonderin, wot wud be better, a mini ipod or a normal not as good as 40gb ipod?
the ipod mini stores 4Gb. the ipod stores 20-40 depending on model.
the mini is a little smaller.
that's about it.
what do you want from your player? size? style? disk space? how much music do you have?
I admit I was sceptical about the mini at first, but having played with one, they really are fantastic peices of kit. They are considerably smaller than the normal iPod, which starts at 15gb compared to the 4gb of the mini. Also, ya won't be able to get them over here till July, and stocks aren't that plentiful in the US either, as lost of people are taking them for the 4gb microdrives, which are more expensive than the stand alone iPod mini
The company making the drives (Fujitsu I think) can't meet Apples demand for them, hence the stock problems.
I'm not going to give my opinion on the ipod in an apple section of the forum - I'll get slaughtered.
Hitachi Global Storage make the 4GB Microdrives. Without the drives Apple can't assemble the rest of the bits needed to make the final product.
I got a normal iPod, 20Gb, and it's pretty cool. Haven't really had a play around with the Mini version, I guess its a damn good piece of kit though. I have about 40 - 50 albums and my 20Gb iPod stores them all, so it's pretty useful because if you buy a mini you might find you fill it up pretty quick.
Hope this helps
whats the battery life between them like? ie does the mini one last longer (music time, not 'time before the battery dies and you have to buy a new-one' time)... not that i can afford either of them :(
is the mini ipod exactly the same except smaller? does it still have that touch sensitive wheel thing? if it does i'll probably get that as everyone has normal ipods.
it's similar to a regular ipod in functionality but has a smaller form factor, and a fifth of the disk space (4Gb).
Also, the mini doesnt have the touch wheel, from what i've seen from piccies, it has all the buttons around the centre button, just think iPod but smaller, less disk space, the wheel look but no touch sensetive wheel and buttons instead, thats it in a nutshell, if your a music hound, get the normal 20Gb+ iPod, if your getting it to replace you cd player, get the mini, as with some other players, you would only put on your favourite songs, simple :)
Do you know, I laugh at you people who feel the need to have 20Gb+ drives for portable music.
My Nokia 3300 has a 256MB card in it - that's about four albums worth. Takes me five minutes to swap music over.
Actually, the iPod mini has a touchwheel with the buttons unerneath, so you can scroll and then press down onto the play/pause for instance all on the same part. Makes it smaller, but still has the same intuitive contrl system,Quote:
