been doing a lot of googleing, but coming up dry. perhaps someone out there knows where i can pick one up?

ebay. All the people wo sell second hand mac stuff retail charge a bloody fortune for it. Probably be cheaper to buy a second G3 than to just get the PSU! But there may be one being broken for spares on ebay.
Alternatively try going to www.lowendmac.com and signing up to the UK and G3 mailing lists (on the right hand side is a link to the mailing lists), someone there should be able to help...
Well Hello!
You can just buy a standard atx PSU and use it to power the g3, you just have to change a jumper on the motherboard in order to do this

It's way cheaper than a replacement G3 chip.
