it's a mail client. if you don't like it install something else
6.Does OSX have built-in DVD burning software?
not sure on the specifics, the guy with the mac is asleep. but considering they've shipped with dvd writers for years
    7.Can it overburn CD's?
i doubt any supplied software would. roxio toast might be a little more accommodating, and unix cdrecord would be much more accommodating
8.Will it burn images such as ISO, NRG, BIN?
    yes, yes, not sure
9.Does Adobe Photoshop on the Mac have any missing items from the PC version?
    no
10.Does it have a built in soft firewall?

no. neither does windows or linux. http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_mac/

out of the box there are a few, same as with windows. most notably, quicktime is unable to play .avi files, you need a 3rd party app such as mplayer or vlc
Any questions answered would be great

    Thanks for that Hex.

As for dvd software, if it comes with a DVD drive it will ship with iDVD as part of the iLife package. However, I don't think that this is part of the bundle that you get in the shops, and it only works with Apple's built in dvd-rw drives. They also do DVD studio Pro as an extra, which is more advanced, but again I think this only works with internal superdrives, but I may be wrong, have never really played with any dvd burning stuff.

You can pretty much do everything on the Mac - even run Windows if you're so inclined. As for DVD burning use Toast but OS X does support burning DVDs via the finder. iTunes also allows you to burn your MP3s to disc.

VLC is a great app and should be on your 'must download' list

Anti-Virus: No, but there are like a handfull of viruses for OS X and they are all pretty timmid. If you're too bothered you can get Norton, but I personally don't bother...

BIN/CUE: Toast burns this just fine!

Also you can have your discs burnt with Mac/PC compatibility or just Mac (via Toast!)

there's really no reason for FUD. virtualpc hardly counts, since (for example) you'd be hard pushed to get Lemmings running on there.
