Soooo slow. Go faster, go faster!!

My darling other half has herself a srubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishy Powerbook G4, but after some sustained iPhoto use, it's reduced to a crawl. Being a diehard PC user, I'm not in the best position to help her....but such is my love that I'm ready to learn.

That's right, love does indeed conquer all.

Anyway, is anyway of speeding up the infernal machine, or is it simply that iPhoto cannot deal with the 13,000 digital photo's she's managed to accumulate (I don't have this problem with Adobe PhotoAlbum on the PC...yeah, you heard me, on the PC....Sorry, old habits dying hard).

Is there a defrag option, or is more RAM the only option....I think she's only got the standard RAM amount, whatever that is, 12 bushells worth or something....do Mac's even use RAM for that matter :D

Please please advise, otherwise she's going to go out and buy a G5 with a 23" monitor, which I'll then have to appropriate, which will be the end of my PC-fanboydom (word?).

Sorry, was busy with some other stuff.

I think with 13,00 photos on all at once any machine will struggle. iPhoto i think loads all the photos at almost full size, so is pretty memory intensive. The easiest way to use it is to creat lots of albums of less photos, so they can be viewed in batches. Also, use the last import album, which changes everytie you import. This means you can then just look at the most recent ones before filing them away into various albums.

I would definitly look to stick some more ram in the pb 256mb is always limited :) U can get 512mb from crucial reasonably cheaply from memory :)

Gordy ... Not sure, but I think that it comes with 512 as standard, which should be alright, twoud have thought.

The default install of the pb has 256mb from memory then a sodimm slot for expansion unless specified at the time you bought it (and paid extra for ) the ram will be 256mb I would imagine :)

Also defrags hardly ever have an effect on anything

did not think osx had a defrag option because it run's on a modded bsd core
