ibook or powerbook?
hi, in around 3-4 months i will be buying a laptop, so far i have ruled out a windows laptop as i want a change so have decided to go with an apple laptop, but now i don't know which one to get a powerbook or ibook?
what are that main diferences between the 2?
i was looking at sepending no more than £1200 so i could get a fully kitted out ibook or as low end powerbook(i can get the student discount so thats a few £ cheaper)
i will mainly want it for wireless internet and msn. maybe office work(but i use my pc for that so i'm not sure)
so for just internet and msn use what would you recomend?
thanks

If its not going to be doing heavy work such as ps I would save the cash and get a ibook. The only difference other than the speed is you cant get a dvd burner in the ibook from memory :)

thanks, i don't need a dvdrw as i've just got one for my pc.
so is the best thing you can do take the ram up to a gig?
what ram does it need? sd or ddr?

IT can be a bit picky about ram, best to get direct form Appl eor from Crucial. As Gordy said, unless you will be needig the extra grunt of a Pbook, get and iBook.
Remember though that the 14" display is the same res as the 12" display. Also, it doesnt have a pccard slot. Also, get an Airport extreme card in there.

thanks, i think i will go for a 12inch screen(or go pcworld to see if there if much difference in 2inches) i would get the ram from crucial. and i would get one with the airport card in allready.
can you get msn for apple?

gordy...actually you can get the superdrive in the iBooks now so there are just minor differences between the iBooks and 12" PBs and that is mostly in the speed of the RAM, HD size/speed, slightly different/faster G4 CPU and better graphics card...considering the difference in prices I would probably go for the 1Gig iBook and would have purchased that over the 14" I have but we only had an 800 G4 in the 12" size when I got mine :( oh well

I like the powerbook :). My father has got a Powerbook G4, which is really good looking and a great laptop. The powerbook G4 has a 15" screen, and it's really good quality. You can buy a 17" also, but I think that's a bit overkill. Then of course it'll be heavier.
You can take a closer look at it here: http://www.apple.com/powerbook/
Good Luck!

iBooks are cute and powerbooks powerful :)
If you want a small, little bit cheaper and older computer, stick for the G3.
If you want something new and can spend some money on it I would recommend a Powerbook (15" :P). They are really nice :)
