    MAC Prices

i was under the impression that mac were kept at pretty much the same cost around the world by apple.

    But apperently not.

    check this out.

Mac usa, is literally giving away ipods and printers to students.

So it turns out in the usa u can get a 12 inch powerbook and a 15gb ipod for around 200 quid cheaper than ud pay for the powerbook alone in the uk. (if ur a student in the US).

Is it me or is this just plain wrong!

Luckily one of my best mates at uni happens to live in the states. And hes gonna try and wangle one for me (i hope)

That's a pretty standard bundle offer really.

Buy a laptop, an ipod and a printer all at once and you get $300 off the total.

The prices *are* fixed by apple they just vary from country to country.

    http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukInd

10% off, so it's not quite so bad (If you are a student)

yeah, i was happy when i saw that a while back as i am a student. But even with my student discount its still like £200-250 cheaper in the states . + i dont get an offer for an uber cheap ipod.

    /me feels slighted

    US - powerbook 12 inch + 15 gb ipod = $1813 - $200 rebate=1613

    =£1,015.20 GBP
    (if ur a student)

    Uk - powerbook 12 inch +15gb ipod = £1504.59 GBP
    (if ur a student)

(botht hese options include an upgrade to 60gb hdd)

Fook , its a lot more than i thought.!!!
    =difference of £489 which is $777

Ok now, tell me why i shouldnt be slightly agrieved about that price difference!
Frankly , i cant beleive that is ALL tax!, so how much are apple charging the great and good briths public for a different plug end and a £ on the keyboard!

Yeah, and if you go to other places in the world it could cost you even more than that, it's called economics

Most of it is actually UK based taxation, if you bought that bundle in the states then import bring it into this country you will be liable for sales tax, Import Duty, and whatever shipping costs to actually get it here.

That £490 saving would soon vanish in the above scenario.

the way those programs work is there are deals for Education customers that don't apply to the general consumer. Also you can have different programs available to different regions of the world so where the prices are fixed, the programs are flexable

Yeah, and as I mentioned, for you to get it over here will probably wipe out most of those savings if you get nobbled by customs..

That and the fact that if anything goes wrong you'll have a US warrenty, so possibly hassle getting any problems fixed..

Apple seem to fix their prices in the UK, I've seen some trade prices for stuff and whilst other laptop manufacturers are normally discounted, apple prices are not discounted at all.
