ipod hells!
Hi folks,
I purchased an ipod and all seemed well for ages. Then one day last week, it seemed to crash. The hard disk was still spinning but I couldn't turn the until off or make any changes to the mode, i.e. play, pause etc.
After that when I tried to plug into my computer (xp home) it wasn't recognised as an ipod and now I fear that the software on the ipod has gone mad. I'm getting a folder and alert icon and the ipod can't go through a boot sequence.
I've tried to use the initial disk to reformat but the ipod isn't recognised so I can't restore to factory settings... I did get a can't mount ipod error but since then it's not even been recognised...
any suggestions?

Complete reinstall? if the hdd wont stop spinning, reset it using the buttons (unlock the ipod, on gen 1-3 hold menu + pause, gen 4 press menu + centre button) Apple logo should appear and it should all be fine.
Mine went into an infinate spin when i dropped it onto the desk

The same thing happened to me with my 4g. I phoned up apple support and they sent dhl round with a box to pick it up, i got it back 4 days after (although you mightn't be so lucky). There are loads of posts about similar things on the apple forums, so get in touch with apple.
