    Ipod Batterys...

    Hi Guys!

I've had a 4th gen ipod for a couple of weeks, now in the manual it says the battery should last about 12 hrs in good conditions. On mine I am getting about 8hrs tops and that is listening to the album through and not skipping about, all are mp3's @ 192k..Is this normal or should I be thinking about sending it back?

They won't do anything unless it drops below 50%. We were taking them back at work and Apple weren't letting us RMA them, so places are stricter now.

Grrrr..Sounds about right. I had bought an I River H140 before xmas but it had an issue where there was a constant clicking through the headphones all the time, even the two replacements from Amazon had the same issue, so thought I'd just buy an Ipod...

I work 5 mins from the new apple store in london so may take a trip down and see what they have to say

I wouldn't hold your breath mate, I sent mine back a while ago with a dodgy battery and they didn't do anything except put a nice new scratch on the back!

I have one of the gen three's and I will get 6 - 14 hours depending on how I use it. I am assuming you use the same thing I do, shuffle by album instead of shuffle by track, if so I get about 8 hours out of mine when i am at work. It seems to depend though and it jumps in battery time every day sometimes i will get crap battery life and other times it will outlast the gen 4 battries that other people have here at work.

The figures they put in their manuals are under best conditions, its rare you will actually achieve those time limits. On average you should be seeing atleast 8 - 10 hours on the gen 4 if you are just listening to an album on your way to work, uni etc etc listening to it and turning it off until you are on your travels again, I am assuming you have the sleep feature on for the ipod, if so its probably better turning the ipod off manually instead of letting it sleep then you can make sure its turning itself off and hopefully save you some battery time.

Yep basically on the train to and from work, hold the pause button down till it switches off, worked out i'd got about 7.8 hours and the battery bar was just about empty

Just an update but after some reading appear to have found a good solution. Firstly download the IPOD updater software from apple. Fully charge your Ipod and then plug in and use the restore function, I used the usb connection. It then asks you to plug into the mains after the flash..Once it's done it's stuff and says fully charged again, hook back up and re-download all the music..

I've been playing for 6 hours now, same pattern as before and it's still half full so looks like is on target for around 12 hours, whereas before it would have been just about empty!

I got a 40gb iPod photo and mine is lasting barely 6hrs even though its rated between 12 and 15hrs. I havent fully decharged my battery yet though, so I'm gonna try that soon.

Mines up to 10 hours now, lot better than 6, battery gauge isn;t that accurate though, was playing for quite a while reading 0%, fully discharged last night to see if that calibrates back
