Hello from Apple Store in London

Im in the apple store playing with the macs.

i wish they would have put a scroll mouse on this mac mini.

From using it it seems that a 1.4 Ghz version is whats needed the
1.2 is annoyingly sluggish. I think it just the right size to go in my car
    stereos place great.

    Whey im back now.

I have to say that people shouldnt buy the 1.2 GHz version it really is noticably slow
i think OSX is just too much for it. It felt like when i used to run win XP on a 450 MHz
    K6-III.

The ones i tested both had 512 MB of ram, so the basic one is no doubt even worse.
It ran pretty cool though considering its on non stop for hours. cold to the touch on
top and a little warm underneath.

I think its a nice little internet box if you pay for the decent spec one but then its
a bit too expensive again. If it was £350 for a 1.4 GHz with 512 MB i would buy one.
I would have recommended some tard friends who collect spyware and the like to get
one but the 1.2 isnt worth it.

even though I'm a mac hater - I've had to talk my little bother out of getting one - and getting one of the new g5's instead (failing that a decent pc!) there's no reason to get a mini if he's got the full set of home entertainment gear and the mini doesn't really add value.

have you seen the price disparity of the us and the uk and europe.

The US basic mac mini works out at £268 at current exchange rates.
its £340 in the uk that really does take the piss dont you think.

I think the 1.4 with 512 MB ram works out at £350 in the US if it was
that much here i would buy one and im sure many others would too.

it isnt so bad a price tbh.

    £268 +VAT ~ £315

£25 quid isnt that much of a markup for apple considering we live in rip off britain

(remember tho, americans have to pay tax on their purchases too , but as the states differ in prices the apple price is listed as ex. tax)

so in fact it is not as nearly as bad a deal as it looks at first glance

I wondered into the regent street mac store the other day on the way home from work and its the first time i had been in there... wow it was just as shiny as all apple products - also the lecture area up stairs was impressive, having someone running 'lessons' over the weekends (and maybe during the day in weekdays but im not sure) which are free to sit down and listen / learn. However it was really tempting to make a scene

Well I was assuming that the mac mini isnt made in the US so import tax isnt that
straight forward. Is it made in the US then? if not where?
