    MSN messenger replacement?

I've been playing with the mac version of msn and is donkey's years behind the pc version. Is there a mac program that works better?

    Cheers

I use Fire myself, I find it stays connected more than MSN, and I also like the tabbed chatting. The auto away messages are good too.

    Apparently....

    "adium" is very good.

Never tried it myself, just use the outdated official one.

I don't think anything will really overtake MSN in the instant messanging realm (I'm not counting VOIP as an IM program...). However, if one thing will overtake it, it'll be a Google IM program, which seems an inevitable spin off of the browser they are supposedly making.

Yeah I'd use msn if the program was kept even a few months behind the pc version but the mac one is at v4 and the pc v7

I will try fire headbrace and aduim too tommorow and see whether they are a better bet than the shocking msn official

Tried both of them and wasnt impressed. Fire didnt take you to the inbox or the email just the welcome page each time which was a pain. and didnt have any way of checking to see if you had a new email like on the pc version of msn.

Adium was similiar and was just as poor imho.

I will try some others but at the mo the official msn looks like it will have to do

i use fire - its great because it's not only MSN but also IRC, yahoo, aim etc, all the major IM's

and it does stay connected more than official msn. only thing that annoys me with any of them is its unsupported with the games, winks, nudges, personal photo thing

I also tried mercury but none of them have the options I'm looking for which is for it show some kind of message that there is a new email but if I'm away from the computer give me some kind of sign there is an email there without having to log into hotmail.

And also when I get an email to give me the option of going straight to the email not just hotmail.

Pretty dissapointed in the ones I've tried they've not been much cop.

Ive used AMSN for mac, but there isnt really much of an advantage using this over MSN. Even with iChat, mac users are somewhat limited to AIM for video chat with PC users. I really hope someone makes an iChat hack that allows you to connect to MSN as well.

Cool, does it support msn natively or is there a link to a patch you could provide me with?

And also, msn 5.0 for mac is imminent afaik

(Don't pay too much attention to teh version numbers, they don't "equal" the PC level)
