Which Apple?
Hi guys... again... ;]
I'm about to invest money into an apple system, my question is which? I already have my mind set on either;
- iMac
- G5 Dual Proc
- G4 Powerbook
If I had plenty spare money I'd probably just get all of them, but as it stands I gotta make the choice and only pick one of them.
Each has it's advantages I guess, but I will mostly be using it for media purposes, programs used will be in order of importance or most used;
- Photoshop
- Freehand MX
- Flash MX
- MS Word
- Internet Use
- Fireworks MX
- MS Powerpoint
- MS Excel
And no doubt some more I just can't think of right now as these are the one's I use bulkwise right now.
So which system would best suit my needs in your opinion? I mean of course the Powerbook is always nice to have, but perhaps it will just get annoying having it so small?
Any replies appreciated,
Thanks,
epi.

out of those, i'd avoid the imac because of the built in screen - being able to choose your own screen i think is very important :) because you can get 21" trinitron sony monitors from ebay for £200 (well i did anyway).
will you be going places to work with the computer? if so then a laptop would be ideal - if you're only going to use it in one place, then you may as well get the G5 - especially as it's probably much quicker than a G4 system.

Well, I guess I wouldn't really need the portability factor, so then it's between pretty much the G5 or iMac, I quite like the iMac because of it's funky design and swivel screen, the G5 is obviously much more powerful, but the downside to that is the price tag that is linked to it, if I got the G5 which one would you recommend?

I would look at the 1.8Gig G5 or if you can afford it go to the dual 2Gig...as for RAM just get the standard and upgrade from a 3rd party like crucial or kingston...just don't get bargan basement RAM as you will have issues

THe g5 without a doubt. They are quite simply the best machines i have ever used. They have better graphics, more expandability and bigger hds. However I found the hd very noisy.
Also, the duallies arent shipping yet

Hmm, any idea when the dual G5's will be shipping? Probably get one of them, but really, the widescreen iMac is gorgeous!:]

how much is the widescreen imac?
the g5 1.8ghz is meant to be the best value / performance ratio - the g5 1.6ghz using apparently the same motherboard that's in the G4 powermacs according to mac user.
from a "PC" point of view the 5200 graphics card is a bit of a disappointment. but the base spec of the 1.8 g5 (512/160gb) is much better than the 1.6 g5 (256/80gb) - also the imac 17" spec (256/80gb) doesn't look too good. considering to get a similar spec 17" (512/160) = £1712 and the g5 1.8 is £1850 - i think the g5 1.8 is better - but ultimately it's your money, so it's up to you, as for me, i have nowhere near as much money so i'll just stick to my pc ...

Have to be the G5 and if not then then the powerbook.

Yeah I'll probably wait a while until the dual G5 proc' systems start to ship, but meanwhile i'll still keep my options open:]
