Indeed, very tempted by an iBook, now. Only thing tempting me towards the PB, now, would be the DVI out, as opposed to the VGA out on the iBook.

And the extra memory, by default, can't hurt at all

Does AOL work on mac mini, and will the BT Voyager modems work with it for broadband?

I'm shopping for a new laptop at the moment, the 14" iBook looks very nice. Seems to have been a price drop as well. Think I'll pop over to the Apple Store in Brum next week, if it's still nailed down

tbh, I'd take the 12" ibook still.

The only benefit for the 14 would be a better res, but the pixel count is the same, just larger pixels etc.

I really liked the mini, but the lack of cheap upgrades(hard disk, digital sound, memory,tv capture)put me off.
I wanted it as a home theatre jobby, but you can build a pc so cheap these days, sound card pc about 40 quid, connection for mini about a oner!

    oh well,

I reckon the iBook 12 inch is good for the price...yeah you can get a Dell Inspiron 1200 for (gasp) £341...but the iBook is just a great little package. I used to have a 700MHz G3 one and it was great, just too slow...currently using my 1.4GHz mac mini and...well sure its not lightning, but if I want to do high end stuff...er I'll go to work

This thing runs close to silent, its cheap to leave on all day (85 watt plus tft)...ok its not for games (World of Warcraft runs on it, but at 1024*768 thats all I'd say it does - the 9550 in the iBook should help a bit....and this Mac Mini has half a gig of ram only, stick a gig an a half in the iBook...).

Say what you like, I have an athlon 64 2800+ box and...unless I'm gaming, I hate using it because of the noise. If you just want to internet, email, and IM people....iBook or Mac Mini are great buys that won't depreciate very fast. For gaming, well just have deep pockets

Home theater is a valid point though.

I'm kinda torn between iBook, Powerbook and something like a Tecra M3 for my next lappy...
    Well Hello!

The low end Dell Inpirons are, whilst cheap, heavy and look pig ugly.

The new Dell desktops 5000/5100/9100 are all very quie and, of course, dirt cheap.

If only Apple made a 12" PBook with a PC Card slot i could bin my crappy Inspiron 5150 anchor! Let see what Apple wheels out during Jan-March '06.
