    Lightbulb Mac Mini Display Problems

    Hey,

I recently bought a Mac Mini {1.42ghz/80gb ver} and when i hook it up to my new LG Flatron L1715S TFT i get pretty bad image quality. I have searched and asked around to find that indeed some displays are pretty much buggered when it comes to the mini and Apple dont seem to be doing much about it.

Does anyone know if there is any way i can improve the quality? maybe a new dvi>vga adapter or anything really, just dont want to shell out even more for a new TFT as at the mo the brand spanking mini is on a 7yr old hansol 15" crt.. talk about beauty and the beast!

    Any help/info is appreciated.

    Midnight.

I think its down to the output from the mini its not good enough for some displays (vga ones) I think getting a new tft is the only option

ive tried all of the refresh rates & res' that osx gives me but it does not really do much.

the image quality is useable but when it comes to things like text and mostly viewing websites its very ghosted and distorted, considering i bought it to do web design on its pretty unusable for that aspect.

    tnx for the help/suggestions though.

Ghosting sounds like a bad cabling issue somewhere, so try your dvi cable, or adaptor if its only got one of those adc connectors, ive never seen one so i dont know.

atm im using the dvi>agp dongle that apple supplies as the flatron does not have dvi so i think i will pick up a new dongle when im out as they only cost a few quid, want to rule out the small cheap things before thinking about buying a new tft.

I 2nd that.....you shouldnt have any picture quality problems on LCDs like that unless theres a problem with the cable or whatnot. Whats the native res of the monitor?

i can do 1280x1024 @60/75hz on windows no problem, the same res works on the mini but it just does not look correct, i bought a new DVI>AGP dongle today and it improves the picutre a little its still hard on the eyes when it comes to browsing websites.

i currently use it just for web/php/sql server atm so its in use just not really at its full potential

    Hi there,

Well the reason why you are getting bad image quality is that you are not running your TFT at native resolution. The native resolution of that particular screen is 1280 x 1024. Make sure the output on the mac mini is set to that resolution!
